Textbook Christians

I've been a Textbook Christian.

I can point you to a verse.

I don't have love or coompassion,

but I have an answer terse.

Knowledge is not wisdom.

We need both to have effect,

doctrine and experience,

through trials that afflict.

We're not experts on everything,

just because we know a verse.

We need to check the context,

in the scriptures ourselves immerse.

The Lord Jesus had compassion.

He loves in deed and word.

to have one without the other,

makes our faith absurd.

Let's not be textbook Christians,

but those who in Go'ds hand,

endure trial and persecution,

that we learn to understand.

then with love and sensitivity,

come alongside a hurting one,

and show them from experience,

That we're qualified to comfort them.

If we're unable to empathise,

with someone deep in grief,

it is better to say nothing,

than use cliche for relief.
