Task:

You and your team members are part of a Senate Working Committee investigation. You have been asked to present your case with recommendations for improving the situation regarding Detention Centres in Australia. Your final report to the Senate Working Committee must include:

  • Present conditions - affect on individuals concerned and on Australia.
  • Recommendations
  • Presentation of recommendations supported by arguments as to how each recommendation will change the situation. At a later date, you will meet representatives of other teams who have a different perspective to you. At this time you must present your case, understand their case and try to negotiate some common recommendations. You may need to compromise. The members of this group must present their outcomes to the Senate in a written report stating:
  • Description of members - viewpoint represented
  • List of common agreements
  • List of strong disagreements
  • List of recommendations of whole group (if any). As the Government has a commitment to clearer communication with the Australian population as a whole, your team will send one representative to a panel discussion on Lateline, a live TV program on ABC.
