NCT Week 8
The Lecture
This week’s lecture was all about Computer games in a new age. Different types of games were covered in the lecture, such as MMOG's, Console's and Arcade games. It is notable that the people who play such games are different too, for example... Younger people tend to play the console games, with more of the audience tending towards Computer based games.I also now know that, the game industry is a bigger industry then the movie industry. and as such is being treated so, with advertisements being brought into games, and complex story lines also making an appearance.
The Tutorial
Microsoft Word is one of the most common programs that anybody uses, and today's exercise was to learn some of the basic features of word like saving typing etc, as well as the "advanced features" of mail merge, and tracking changes. The exercise we completed were, in my opinion pretty easy, but none the less I’m sure they were enlightening for some people. Most of the stuff in the exercises is taught even from the early years of high school, so, me being fresh from high school, already knew about all of the features mentioned in the reader outline. The most challenging exercise thou, was the mail merge exercise, as I have never really used it in this version of word, so everything was in the wrong places, and the new wizard certainly made things a bit more difficult but not so difficult as for me to be able to re learn the new interface. (Posted with this is a copy of the mail merge that i had to do, so anybody can look at it, laugh.. what ever it is you want to do.)
One feature of word that I have never used thou, is the macro function. So… I will now see what it does using the Microsoft help file. And it seems that what a macro does is, for when you have to perform a task over and over again, all it does is makes the repetition automated, so you just sit and watch. This is good for say… changing fonts in mass succession, or printing lots of things. Macro’s would be very handy to some people, but probably not to a uni student. To use this feature, you need to be apt minded in visual basic language, so you can program the scripts. Myself I’m not very apt minded in VB so I still have no idea how to use the macro’s. But I have now discussed a function of word that I have never used before.
