Favourite Fords -
Australian Ford GT's and on to the 90's .
After the oil crisis and later rules for stricter emissions the big muscle cars ended in 1978. The 60-70's cars did show some resemblance to their American influences/heritage of that era, although others were very distinctive.
The '90's cars just don't have classic look of the 60's and 70's!

The next GT to arrive was the EB GT in 1992, [below left, red] again a 4 door, now 25 years since the first GT in Australia.
And below right is a recent 1997 EL GT production model below, all Australian made except the Mustang V8.
Take a close look at the bonnet air scoop and distinctive grille of the 'burgundy' EL GT ;

Burgundy EL 4 door GT sedan

Ford Falcon EB GT sedan 1992,  and, right 1997 EL GT sedan.

Uses Mustang 5 litre V8. Note the distinctive grille in bonnet on the right .
Another 1997 GT sedan above right, dark blue, same model as the burgundy car, although the grille is partly obscured.
Ford, in conjunction with the 'Tickford' - an Australian company modified special Ford Sedans and Utilities for GT performance and handling, these are known as the XR6 for the 6 cyl, and the XR8 for the V8 up to 2001.  After that they used the Ford Performance Racing arm, or " FPR " for XR6, XR8 or 'GT' series cars.

From 2003 Ford Australia once again released the ('BA' series 4 door) sedan version [above] of the Falcon GT.
With 5.4 litre V8, 3 valves per cyl, variable cam timing, (not Tickford) but now under the banner of 'FPV' or 'Ford Performance Vehicles'.

The FORD "GT 40" a race car legend.
The Ford Le Man "GT 40" racer, so called because it's about 40" high. See the Blue/orange car below and note how low it is to the ground...
A light aluminium body, and originally with the Ford 302 cu in. V8 engine (later the Ford 427 cu in. V8) had very good power to weight ratio and successfully raced at Le Man and won (beating Ferraris) in 1966-69 with a straight 123 finish! With such awesome power the rules were then changed to curb the excessive speeds and that ended the GT40 career.

The blue & orange car at left is a genuine original race car from around1965, and hence unique as it raced and placed at Le Man.
The 2 red cars [right] are new replicas from 1999/2000, made in Australia, with a 'turn key' built car for about $120,000... These are strictly a Race car, no home comforts here, ride harsh, low hard seats, and very loud, but also very fast.
Ford USA is building a anniversary model in 2004/05 with similar specifications but a production car.. It's closer to 43" high.

All photos by myself, during Adelaide Classic car rally 2002-03-04..

I have built several scale models [1:18 & 1:24] of Ford Thunderbirds, Mustang, Chev Corvette and these are the only classic cars that I can afford!.
