Crystals are one of the most effective and unobtrusive ingredients used in spell casting and healing. Today many people wear crystals as jewelry, because of this they are easy to find and not obvious if you chose to wear one as part of a spell. Below you'll find a list of common crystals and their uses. As always you'll also find a list of sites and books that will give you more detailed and specialised information.

The most commonly used crystals include:

Saphire - Stimulates the third eye allowing your psychic awareness to expand. It also is a guardian of love and used in defensive magic and to aid meditation.

Turquoise - This sacred stone of the American Indians is a protective stone. Worn as a ring it guards against the 'evil eye', mounted in a horse saddle it protects both the rider and horse, and is also a travellers amulet. Give it as a gift to those you wish wealth and happiness to. Like all blue stones it is a charm for luck and good fortune.

There are many other stones, minerals, fossils and metals that are used for magic and it is good to begin collecting them. Some people swear by uncut stones as the energy is not 'dulled' by tumbling. Not only is it better for the novice to begin with tumbled stone for this reason, it is cheaper too :)
Enjoy your crystals handle them often and with love. Before using any stone in a ritual or spell you must first cleanse it, so that you dont carry any unwanted energies into your working. See the purification spell page on how to do this.
