Introduction

This site is designed for people who are interested in Witchcraft but have no idea where to start. What you will find in the pages within is a starting knowledge, an overview, that I've discovered on my journey. My journey is far from complete and my knowledge is still growing. But I hope that you'll find my site informative and helpful. On each page you will find a suggested reading list of books and sites that explore that particular topic in depth.

As you can see there are relatively few graphics on this site. I wanted it to be simple, yet elegant, and focus on the knowledge contained within. This also means that it should be quicker for the pages to load :)

You'll notice I have only touched on a few subjects. This list will grow as time goes by. Please feel free to email me if you have any suggestions for topics or questions.

As I become more proficient with HTML I'll be able to add more to the site, so please feel free to send comments and suggestions for the apperance and structure of the site.

Getting Started

If this is the first time that you have begun to look into Witchcraft one of the first things that you should do is set up an Altar. The Altar is your sacred space, where you commune with the Deities and should be treated with respect. Depending on what your living arrangements are it will either be set up permanently or be put away when not in use. It is up to your personal preferences what the altar looks like and the style will be dictated by your personality.

The basics required are: a table (or flat surface to put everything on), a cloth to cover it, 2 plain candles, 2 bowls or chalices and an incense holder. You can add as many other items, such as statues, crystals, talismans etc. to this as you wish, as I said these are the basics. The 2 candles can be any colour, size, style or shape you like. I personally use 2 white tall pillar candles. If you are going to use tapers you will need candle holders as well. The candles represent the God and Goddess. They are placed at the back of the altar at each of the 2 corners. The 2 bowls or chalices hold in one water and in the other salt, earth or grain. These represent the Elements - Water and Earth. The Incense holder is to represent the Element Air. Finally for the Element Fire you can either add a 3rd candle or use the 2 existing candle to represent it. Once you have set up your Altar you are ready to begin.

About Me

So why should you believe anything I say? Firstly I don't want people blindly taking my word as some sort of Witchy Gospel, one of the best things about the Craft is that you form your own beliefs as you learn. There is no one dogma that you must believe, nor is there one tennant. Many will tell you that the Wiccan Rede is the one tennant of the Craft, but those on some of the different paths do not follow this either.
I have been practising for 10 yrs and follow a solitary Eclectic path. Over the years I have worked in a coven. To form my own personal beliefs I investigated many paths from new-age to left-hand and quite a few in between, I don't profess to know everything and quite frankly am writing this site to see how much I really have to learn :)

Just a note that while I don't have many images on my site and will try to give credit where I know whose they are, if you see something that's yours please let me know so that I can give you credit where it's due or remove it if you are not happy for me to have your work on my site. One day I'll get around to learning how to do it myself :).

Site Updates

2 August 2005 - A rather large gap in doing any work on the site. Unfortunatley the 'real' world has been taking precedence but as today is imbolc i have done some updating on the page about this festival.

20 June 2004 - I have enlisted the help of my good friend and extreamly talented artist to create new graphics for the site. So i have spent some time updating the images and working on some content. Well my resoloution to do more work on the site has been thwarted by an addiction to neopets and a lot of overtime at work. With the Winter Solstice coming up in the southern hemisphere I thought it would be time to do some work on the pages about Yule.

1 February 2004 - Some more information added and editing of current pages. Now that xmas etc. is over some more work can begin.

15 December 2003 - Wow. Just a bit of a break there ;) Well I've been a busy little camper today, i've changed a few backgrounds, done some work on the spell book and festivals.

24 November 2003 - Some more info on the festivals has been added

16 November 2003 - A new page on Symbolism has been added, content is still to be done though.

15 November 2003 - After a bit of a break (due to lack of glasses, I couldn't see properly) things are getting back on track. Today I've updated some more of the festivals.

31 October 2003 - Well it's Samhain so i suppose it is fitting that i update the pages on the festivals - Major and Minor Rituals

28 October 2003 - I have added information to the crystals page and updated the elements page. More info on the elements is needed but that is my next item on the agenda.

24 October 2003 - Now that I have my own computer and can do what I like with it I have a bit more work to do on the site :) The Crystals page has been updated and nearly finished.
