Astronomical Stargazing Night.
NEXT MEETING:
Date: Saturday, November 5th, 2011
Time: 7.00pm - 11:30pm
Cost: $10
Location: Stockport Observatory
Meet first at Sanctuary Surfers, 201 Waymouth Street, City (opp Koorong)
Viewing the night sky at an observatory is a great way to appreciate the immensity of God's universe and the beauty of His creation. Sanctuary Christian Ministries / Sanctuary Surfers are attending a stargazing night on Saturday, November 5th 2011, where we plan to visit the SA Astronomical Society Spring Starparty at the Stockport Observatory, 75km north of Adelaide. Come along and see the planet Jupiter and its moons, beautiful open star clusters, our moon, the globular cluster 47 Tucanae and possibly the Andromeda galaxy as well as many other gems of the night sky.
Stockport Observatory is located 30km north of Gawler and we will arrive there around 8.30pm. You can expect to find a range of telescopes to look through, as well as the large observatory scope, a mini-cinema with DVD presentations and a BBQ sausage sizzle (extra $2.50 approx). Most of the telescopes are owned by society members and they are more than happy to show you specific parts of the night sky and talk about their equipment or anything space-related.
If you're keen, just meet us inside Sanctuary Surfers, at 201 Waymouth Street, City at 7:00pm for a short talk and overview before heading up to the observatory in cars. We aim to arrive back no later than 11:30pm and should the weather be problematic, you're welcome to still meet at Sanctuary and we will head into town for some outreach instead! For confirmation of our plans on the day, feel free to contact John Delany on 0403 313 912 or johndelmusic@gmail.com
Cost for the night is $10 per person, which covers entry fee and small fuel contribution. All are welcome - we would love to see you there!
