TREElectric Pty Ltd (ACN 061 208 688) is a vibrant young Australian company which is promoting the establishment of global environmentally sustainable energy systems.
HISTORY: The company has had humble beginnings. During the late 1980's, personal concern of the company founder and managing director, Mr Neil Aitchison, for the growing problem of soil degradation and the potential alleviation through tree planting, led to an investigation of economic and practical end uses for the resulting biomass. In the course
of further investigation for the viable establishment of agroforestry on degraded soils, it became apparent that a new industry potentially exists in energy generation from biomass energy crops and biomass residues.
A "mini power station" type technology could use the local available biomass residues as well as supply low-cost power and heat for regional industry and domestic consumption. This investigation received tremendous support from the Australian agricultural and timber
industries and consequently, in September 1993, TREElectric was incorporated.
GOALS: The company's primary goals are
1. to identify potential biomass fuel resources and energy crops (such as broad-acre tree/grass plantations on degraded farmlands and waste utilisation in the timber, agricultural and waste management industries)
2. to develop power gasification systems and other power generation systems to be used in a variety of applications such as on the farms, for motor vehicles and at industry sites to supply local power and heat requirements or to supply power to the public power grid.
3. to actively promote the concept of sustainable energy systems at seminars,
conferences and field days to educate governments, industries and the wider community as to how sustainable energy systems can benefit the way we live and conserve our
ACTIVITIES: TREElectric believes that the need for sustainable development is global, and therefore no one person, nor organisation, nor country can work alone, but rather in a global network where participants each provide expertise and knowledge to develop and implement sustainable energy strategies. TREElectric is therefore seeking to work with other people of like mind to help develop these strategies. We believe that apart from sustainable energy development, these strategies will help reduce global warming by producing a carbon "sink", as well as encourage regional development, reduce the distances required for transporting fuels
compared to existing centralised power stations, utilise natural resources, reduce the need for constructing extensive power grids and
provide an added income for farmers and other rural industries.
