Passlabs Amplifier Projects

The Aleph5

Having built the Aleph4, I was a very happy man. I had an amplifier which produced adequate power, was not so large & heavy that it could not actually be lifted (SoZ) and was exceptionally pleasing to the ear!

Some time passed and I began to feel a little uncomfortable given the less than ideal appearance of the amp (WAF = wife acceptance factor, was low) and the fact that it was a "suboptimal" project, having been done "on the cheap".

So .... I decided to build a "proper" Aleph, which would become my ongoing living room amplifier. I chose the Aleph5 because I felt it represented the best compromise for me in terms of power output and heat dissipation/hardware requirements. You need double the power supply for an Aleph4 ... for a total of 40W or about 2.3dB extra!

As opposed to my version of the '4', which was unique, I planned to make this reproducible so I could make another later if I wanted to bi-amp at some stage.
