IT'S ALL THE SAME THING

We have three main systems of belief
- religious, scientific and political (economic).
Society is well represented by these three groups,
and within each group are its own by-laws and codes of conduct.
None of these groups are wrong in their pursuits,
but none have the whole complete answer.
You will however, be drawn to the one that you identify with,
your base intention.
For some it is financial independence,
for others it is spiritual enlightenment
and others are simply here for a good time.

Religion ideally focuses on our emotional concerns;
what is it all about
(feelings).
Science however, delves into the logical understanding of molecular activity
and why does it do that
(thinking),
whereas Politics and economics is mainly focused on the practicalities of the
immediate day to day survival of;
where do I have to be right now
(wanting).

As with the following story,
the eventual truth was far more than originally thought.

SHORT STORIES

3 BLIND MEN

Once upon a time, there were three men.
Each were blindfolded and asked to explain
what it was they were holding in their hands.
The first man announced that he knew the answer
because his father told him earlier.
He proudly stated that it was indeed a length of rope
and that this information would be passed on to his children.
On hearing this comment, the second fellow disagreed,
based on new evidence that he had.
As an expert in his field, he had theoretical proof,
that what was thought to be
a length of rope, was, in fact, a snake.
When the third blindfolded man heard these answers
he laughed hysterically and asked them
if they were on drugs of any kind.
He boasted that the object they all held was actually a tree trunk.
He argued that what the other two had, was simply branches of that trunk.
The majority of the people agreed it was a tree trunk, and so it was.

Here we have three men,
each believing that what they were holding was the truth,
and the others were obviously wrong.
They went on defending their own beliefs, accusing the other of being bias.
When they finally removed the blindfolds they discovered that they were
holding an elephant.

The first man was holding the elephant's tail,
the second man holding the elephant's trunk
and the final man holding the elephant's leg.

As you see they each had a part of the truth,
a part of the elephant
and if they had shared their knowledge with each other,
they would of come to the same conclusion
before they removed their blindfolds.

The search for the meaning of life is the same.

ONENESS

As we move into the New Age of Aquarius,
Mankind's evolution is now obvious,
in that a state of oneness is the desired outcome.

Oneness!
Now there's a new-age word that has been spoken about
for the last two thousand years,
but do we really know what it means ?
Think about it...

Our first thought's would perhaps be Globalisation
based on money and power,
for the economic or politically motivated person.

Another would be religiously based
where a world of Man, Nature and the Universe
are all focused on the same result, peace and harmony.
Ideal - yes; practical - not really.

The oneness I speak of is a much more personal journey.
It is a Mind/Body/Soul Oneness.
The bringing together of our thoughts, feelings and desires into a focal point,
overcoming internal fear and external challenges.
By allowing our intention to direct the flow for our highest good,
which would also incorporate the common good of all.

The New-Age Movement, as it's been termed,
is simply a combination of basic truths from all religions
as well as the basic concepts from science and politics.
Some say its Old-Age Wisdom revisited,
to provide us with the tools necessary to create a balanced productive lifestyle
that gives us, individually, a reason and objective while here at  Earth-School.

The New Age is not here to make you a better person;
it does however offer techniques and experiences that allow
that 'better you' to express its own uniqueness.
The information will not change you or convert you;
it may however with practice open you to a way of living rather than existing,
 acting rather than reacting.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

If you're a typical Aussie like myself,
you would have been raised on a diet of 3 veggies and meat... every night.
During summer, your parents would have replaced veggies with salads,
which in my case was a welcome change.

Now in the era of uniting in a multicultural nation,
we find our food intake suddenly has a whole new variety,
styles of eating never witnessed before.
You could spend a month eating from a different culture every night.

This is good, we call it progress.
Some call it evolution.
We do the same thing with fashion, electronics, medicine and lifestyles.
We take on the positive aspects we like and in doing so,
expand our awareness and experience.
We do this with most things except religion.

WHY ?

THE INVITATION

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living,
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to meet your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are,
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon,
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life's betrayal or
have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own,
without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own,
if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
Without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic
or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you're telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another
to be true to yourself;
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
I want to know if you can be faithful
and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty
even if it's not pretty every day,
and if you can source your life from God's presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours or mine,
and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout
To the silver of the full moon,  YES !

It doesn't interest me to know where you live
and how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of
grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone,
and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the centre
of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or
with whom you have studies.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself.
And if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

ABOUT DJ PETE
DJ Pete (6 months old) with his mum - Aileen Vail

Born the youngest of five kids, on the 1st day of spring 1966,
and bred in the suburb of Putney, Sydney,
his love of adventure was obvious at an early age.
From diverse hobbies and sports such as sea scouts and ballroom dancing,
to soccer, tennis and golf, he spent his youth energetically.

      DJ Pete's
      First Day
      of Big
      School

Educated at his local Roman Catholic school, Holy Cross College Ryde,
his childhood ambition of being a priest quickly dampened
when he discovered girls.
Although his career path changed, his curiosity on the subject of
creation vs. evolution vs. intelligent design
was to remain firm.

On completion of school at 16,
he worked and studied as a trainee accountant by day
and by night was involved in the birth of break-dancing in Australia.
"It was quite an unusual lifestyle," Pete recalls.
"I would be working all day in a taxation office finishing at 5pm, go home
and sleep till midnight. Wake up, go up to the Cross dancing all night,
before finding ourselves at Bondi Beach for sunrise,
which included a quick shower and breakfast,
then off to the office for a 9 am start.
It was a daily transition from 'Radical Red' to 'Conservative Pete',
something had to give."

When the break-dancing fad finished,
Pete looked to something completely different.
He says that DJing picked him.
The Friday night he was curiously asking questions,
the Saturday night he was in training.
As it turned out, he was a natural.
This was also to be his most effective tool in overcoming his childhood shyness.

DJ CAREER
2006 marks DJ Pete's 22nd year anniversary.

Beginning as a hobby with Mobydisc in March of 1984,
it was not long before accountancy was replaced
by the decision to go professional.
"My agency threw me in the deep end.
I literally went from backyard parties to one of Sydney's rock institutions,
The Hotel Manly, over-night".
The gamble paid off.
DJ Pete was now a part of the Sydney Club DJ Circuit.

There he remained for the next 6 years,
spinning in many of Sydney's commercial venues by night,
and by day, producing radio shows.

RADIO SHOWS

DJ Pete's introduction to radio began with his local community station
2RRR, Ryde.
He joined at a great time.
The station had only recently been formed,
transmitting from the caretaker's garage at the local college,
still unable to produce a fulltime schedule.

"I was on-air about 15 hours a week,
never paid, but the opportunity was priceless.
I was doing two differently formatted shows.
One was with my buddy since birth, Luke.
It was always unprepared, never serious, but loads of fun."

The other was an unemployed youth training course,
run by the government agency CYSS (Community Youth Support Scheme).
He was initially a student, but on completion became its tutor.
"I really enjoyed that period. It wasn't so much about producing radio stars,
moreso producing incredible self-esteem spurts.
Seeing those kids go from insecure butterflies to courageous lions
in the space of a month, that was amazing."

Shortly after, DJP attained his own break into commercial radio.
Sydney's leading station at the time, 2SM,
launched a weekly youth documentary show, called '30 minutes'.
The format was a youth show, presented by youth.
Topics on the show ranged from drugs, sex, violence and lifestyle.
The concept went on to win international recognition.

"Once again, I was in the right place at the right time.
This was more than a dream come true,
not only did I have access to the incredible equipment and resources
of 2SM, but was also meeting the top announcers of the day.
People like Jonno and Danno, Club Veg, Mike Hammond,
and a much younger Ugly Phil O'Neil."

The series ran until the stations demise, due to restructuring, in 1988.
This was also the time he completed his studies at the
Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

DJ Pete ON AIR at 2RRR (Ryde Regional Radio 88.5 FM), Sydney, NSW, 1990

"After four years though, I lost the passion; the challenge disappeared.
It was the same thing every week.
Same people, same format, same music, I guess I needed a change."
He initially went back to his roots, the backyard party,
but it was not wholly satisfying.
"I really enjoyed radio and the MC (Master of Ceremonies) work,
and decided to expand on that.
At first, I tried spruiking but eventually fell into the sales industry,
returning to DJing as a part-time hobby."

SALES CAREER.

Although the son of a chemical engineer,
his father was more involved in consultation and product sales.
Pete began from the bottom, as a cold-caller (canvasser),
in the office equipment sales industry,
but with-in a short time was promoted to customer sales.
With the assistance of his mentor, John Cabral,
he set out to master the art of selling.
"Johnny was my 'coach', so to speak. I was a cocky 21 year old
when he showed me the ropes, motivated me to perform
but more importantly, had me read inspirational books."
Learning from the best of the time,
trainers like Tom Hopkins, J. Douglas Edwards,
Og Mandino, Zig Ziggler and Napoleon Hill,
he doubled his income, after only 2 years.

Prosperity was now on Pete's doorstep, but still he challenged himself.
The comfort of receiving base wage, car and commission
was to be replaced with risky commission only.
Once again, his timing was fortuitous and the decision paid off.

Joining the AMP Society in 1989, at 23 he was one of their youngest agents.
With the sudden public rush of superannuation and investments
that accompanied the early 1990s, his income rocketed.
As a junior high-flyer, Pete received many awards and distinctions.
His unique marketing of an over-promoted product
provided him with a niche market.
This should have been where the story finished, Pete Vail, financial adviser.
However, more challenges were due.

In 1990, the economic recession, 'the one we had to have',
was felt by everyone.
Re-assessment was now the priority.
Foreseeing the slow-down of the insurance industry
on top of the recent separation of his long-term girlfriend,
a change was again in order.

This time, the change was mainly internal.
Taking time-out of business pursuits,
his attention turned to self-awareness through self-improvement.
"My ego was fairly vocal back then,
so I sought assistance through professionals".
Intense practices of emotional healing with Insight Seminars
prepared Pete for his next adventure.

Looking North from Hastings Point, Tweed Heads, Northern NSW

Re-locating to the Gold Coast, Queensland in January 1991,
this fresh start was to change his life's purpose forever.
Initially, working as a licensed agent in the Investment Real Estate market,
his sales ambitions faded, while his newly acquired spiritual curiosity ignited.
"I was 26, it was time to re-examine my life's direction.
My main concern was ethical.
I had this natural ability to get the client to say yes and,
as such, I was rewarded handsomely.
I was simply been paid and praised for manipulating people.
Something was not sitting right,
I knew the decision to prioritise money or happiness (lifestyle) had to be made".

A year later, unmotivated by money,
with the temptation of full-time DJ'ing beckoning,
(after all, this was the countries niteclub mecca),
DJ Pete was again, behind the decks.

TOURING DJ.
For the next 4 years, DJ Pete was a regular on the Australian DJ circuit.
Summer on the Gold Coast, winter down at the Snowy Mountains
and late spring up at the Whitsunday's typified a normal year.

"I love the travelling and meeting new people.
The main benefit though is the downtime,
time for meditation and spiritual studies.
The downside is having your close circle of friend's
spread around the country."

DJ SCHOOL & AGENCY
1996, still based on the Gold Coast, he set up the 'DJ Factory',
a DJ school and agency.
The school bypassed the 'invitation only' process,
and provided tuition to students not so fortunate to have friends in the industry.
The agency enabled professional DJs to network together,
instead of the under-cutting of each other, that was usual at the time.
He also pioneered the development of video-disco (VJ)
in the mid 1980s and later, the introduction of the
computer video disco (VCD), on the Gold Coast in the early 1990s.

PHILOSOPHER
Pete's first experience of spiritual service was as an altar boy at his local church.
"Like most kids, church every Sunday was an uninteresting chore.
If I had to be there, I wanted something to do."

His first major lesson in life was overcoming his shyness and hypersensitivity.
In primary school he was one of the very few
redheads
in the playground at lunch.
Add to this millions of freckles on a body as skinny as a rake
and you have a formula that sets itself up for ridicule and teasing.
And so it was.
Going unnoticed was not an option.

"I had seen other kids get picked on for being different and noticed
how they just went numb and took it.
Permanent retreat into an inner, safe place was a tempting option,
but there had to be another way."

At first, Pete found it easier going straight home,
out to the backyard and into the loving paws of his dogs.
"Sasha and Cindy were crossbred Labrador's,
they were also mother and daughter,
more significantly they were my best friends.
Sitting on the back porch, a dog under each arm and trying to work out
why people didn't like me was a common pastime.
Receiving guidance and support and following my dogs' advice
was also common, if not normal.
"Sasha and Cindy encouraged me to be myself,
express my feelings and to follow my curiosity.
They also showed me how to have fun but most importantly
they displayed unconditional loyalty".

As the years went by Pete found his natural role at school
was as the class clown.
"It was an option that kind of made sense, if I looked funny,
why not go all the way."
This proved successful with his piers and acceptance was earned.
With his teachers, the opposite result was experienced.
Through the rest of his schooling life canes, straps and attending 'chain-gang'
(a form of working detention), were regular activities on his curriculum.

Raised in a family with a natural love of sport,
tennis featured strongly, as did soccer.
"I found with most sports, even at a young age
I was able to guess the right course of action.
As a goalkeeper this was like having a magical gift.
I could sense what to do before doing it.
I could hear a voice preparing me,
that same voice I heard when talking to my dogs.
The same voice I still hear today when meditating or DJing.
That voice IS my natural intuition ,
my higher self, my spirit and my best friend.

"Both dogs passed on in old age,
and even though they weren't the source of wisdom initially,
they certainly provided me the opportunity to discover my own wisdom
and for that I am grateful."
At the end of the day where I once thought my physical looks were my liability,
it turned out to be my asset. If I looked normal, I would have to act normal.
I was weird looking, so it gave me a license to be weird,
speak weird and act weird.
I realised I could be 'out-there' and get away with it.
Talking to myself became a tool for clarity I still use today."

Thredbo Lake, NSW

It was at the age of 13 that the intuitive philosopher in Pete came out.
"Firstly, I was confused, then angry.
The story of creation as unquestionable truth as well as
the theory of evolution, as scientific fact, was been taught to me,
by the same teacher in the same classroom.
That same year I had my first personal experience with a UFO sighting
while on a scouting adventure,
evidence that contradicted both teachings."
The question was now seeded.

Did we begin with the Apes, the Aliens or Adam and Eve?

Thirsty for knowledge,
he stepped outside his religious and scientific conditioning,
discovering areas of philosophy rarely spoken of at that time.
Prophecies of ancients and moderns,
UFO investigations, government conspiracies and religious debate
consumed most of his school and teen efforts.

His curiosity was also focused on karma and the after-life.
"I was intensely interested in Ghosts. The question wasn't do they really exist,
rather, I wanted to know who they were and how did they become ghosts.
I wanted to know what they did all day,
how long they had been there and what does their future hold.
Like I say, I was naturally curious and having a ghost in my home
for 22 years, he was a good case study."

This love affair with the unknown began as a teenager but was to remain
in the background as a hobby for the next 15 years.
For many people, this is where it usually ends
- too many questions - too little time,
Pete though, persisted.
"Over time, the information and awareness I was experiencing resolved
many of the initial questions I asked as a teen.
Unfortunately these answers presented even more questions,
which created the snowballing effect.
As an open sceptic my personal belief and truth formed its own unique version
of how man appeared on earth.
Not knowing if it was right or wrong,
the temptation to 'check it out' was calling."

"As a salesman trained in PMA (Positive Mental Attitude),
the planning and achieving of goals and quotas was elementary, lesson 1A.
I was good at goal setting and getting what I wanted,
together they worked like a dream.
At one stage, I had my 20-year plan set out on paper in front of me.
It was all there, down to the last detail.
While impressively observing this master blueprint of my future life, it hit me.
Some call it a spiritual awakening others would refer to it as a mid-life crisis.
I was 27 and knew pretty much what my next 20 years would be like,
yet the meaning of life was a complete mystery."

Top of Kosciuszko Range, NSW

That was when Pete resigned from sales, returning to his trade as a DJ,
but more importantly devoting time to his love of philosophy.
The next few years saw his flicker of curiosity spark into an internal bonfire.
Hundreds of hours spent in meditation, reflection and sharing,
learning the best techniques available from the East,
(Buddhism and Hinduism featuring mostly)
along with Western systems of psychoanalysis and numerology,
prepared Pete for his next opportunity.

Numerology was exceptionally powerful for him.
As a sceptic living in a logical world, proof was vital.
Uninspired by astrology as a teenager for its mild accuracy level,
he was amazed to find this new study was scarily accurate.
Based on science and developed by Pythagoras himself,
Pete's curiosity wouldn't let go of this one.
For the next 5 years, everyone he met was offered a numerology reading,
not so much for the person and never for the money
but for the testing of the system.
And it passed.
6000 assesments later, complete strangers he had just met
would be in awe of the information he had provided.
Assessments were even compiled on the leaders in the 1996 federal election.
The article was published by the Gold Coast Bulletin
on the day of polling (see
Press Releases).
"The next day I had people ringing me from all over Queensland,
wanting to know if they could get their own reading done.
Up until then money was never exchanged for readings,
rather, a gift of giving, was adequate payment".
Pete decided to go semi professional
and still remains a freelance numerologist.

Around the time he was testing out numerology,
the exploration of 'trance channelling' was also been undertaken.
"I went to hundreds of these events over several years,
firstly as an open sceptic 'checking it out'
to an active participant and finally
as a supporter of close friends blessed with the particular gift
of tuning into other dimensions.
Many a time I witnessed a channel (person in trance) introduce themselves
as an Archangel of God, some were from the Brotherhood of Light
while others calling themselves ET's were visiting from other planets
and others who were once human, who now just hang around.
I would hear and see my closest friends in trance
express words of wisdom that blew me away,
and blew them away later on when they would listen back to the tapes.
(Unfortunately, full trance channels have no conscious recollection of the event).

I was able to interact with these 'beings'
asking questions of personal and philosophical understanding.
Most answers were provided.
The only recurring exceptions were questions relating to timing of events.
Spirit apparently works on cycles not time.
The transition from doubt to belief was for me, the journey itself,
the information and wisdom gained, true or not was a bonus.

A channelling session is like listening to the Universal radio.
By tuning into a particular frequency you receive the information
from that source.
The clarity and truth of information is totally dependent
on the ability and intention of the channel.
The more pure the channel, the more Divine the source.
This transference of Divine Energy
(whether by words, action or vibration) from one being to another,
is also the basic concept used by most spiritual practitioners.
From shamans of the past to modern day clergy, the principle is the same.

Reiki is another form of channelling.
Referred to as a 'conscious channel', Reiki practitioners
are very conscious of their surroundings and interactions
while communicating with Spirit when healing,
unlike the absence of mind in full trance.

Reiki is a ritualistic practice that supports self-healing by means of
Spirit over mind over matter.

The third type of channel is common to us all.
Its called inspiration.
That spark of an idea that comes from nowhere when we most need it.

Inspiration is best translated as
IN-SPIRIT.

In understanding the concept that we all channel,
Pete shelved all his logical distractions
and set out to define his own inner dimensional world.
Distractions like his DJ school and agency.
Distractions like ghosts and ET's, conspiracies and religious debate
were replaced with simplicity, communication and just being.
In short, DJ Pete went 'hippy'.

Exchanging the fast niteclub city-life for the relaxed atmosphere
of retreat and commune country living,
Pete was finally able to slow down his highly active mind.
The switch from fast paced Sydney in the eighties,
to a relaxed, cruisy Gold Coast in the nineties,
was his switch from yuppie to hippy.
"Now we are in the naughties I refer to myself as a Yippee!
- a happy medium"

N.D.E. (Near Death Experience).

As a self-confessed adrenalin junkie it is not unusual to find DJP
leaping from a plane, shredding down the slopes on his snowboard
or abseiling off some ledge all in the name of a learning experience.

"I've had a few close calls especially down the snow.
Every season I lived there, I saw numerous injuries and fatalities,
people who were doing the same thing as me.
You never know when that day will come."

One such time he escaped certain injury/death was on downhill skis,
during the '93 season. Averaging speeds of 80km/h,
this extreme sport can be 'messy', if control is lost.
And so it was with Pete.

Eventually slowing down to a respectable 40km/h,
Pete slammed into trees eventually ending up
in the Guthega carpark, motionless.
"I remember the rush of trees coming at me with nowhere to escape.
Usually I try something and pull off a miracle recovery.
This time I was thinking 'I'm gone, I'm f*&#ed'.
At the point of impact the urge to just lay back and relax was overwhelming,
so I did, and here I am.
Witnesses at first thought I was dead,
but eventual movement assured them I wasn't.
While getting to my feet they feared I had broken something,
to which I replied, nothing major, just a corked thigh."

Pete's luck was due to his binding ripping from the ski and
no doubt a little Divine Intervention.
Nonetheless that afternoon Pete was back on ski's ready to ride again.

Top of Kosciuszko Range, NSW

Pete's sense of adventure is equivalent to his sense of spiritual protection.
"I like to take it to the edge, and when I do
I feel an incredible sense of Divine Protection.
I do believe in Guardian Angels and I would like to publicly thank them
for all the overtime hours they provide. Very much appreciated."

If that is the case then his angels were involved at a very early age
when he nearly drowned. On holidays with his family on the Gold Coast,
the then 3-year-old disappeared under foamy waves after falling in a hole.
Luckily spotted by his sister, a rescue was enacted, preventing loss of life.
"I really don't remember much except for the brown/white foam of the waves.

Ever since then, luck seems to follow me
and the near-misses, keep tallying up."
