Why this website exists... |

Age of Australia
is a reference, to the timing of our influence,
on the international stage. In this context,
the name 'Age of Australia' could well be translated as
' it's our time Australia'.
Just over 200 years ago a bunch of misfits (convicts and redcoats)
left the motherland to embark on a new beginning,
or was it perhaps an escape,
to a newly discovered island.
Some chose, but most were forced,
to leave their familiar surroundings and adapt
as best as possible to their new environment.
And adapt they did.
In that relatively short time we grew up, mastered the land,
inspired and educated our children and received with open arms
visitors from afar who also desired a new beginning.

We now find ourselves in Australia referred to as 'the lucky country'.
Where isolation was once our hindrance, it has now become fortuitous.
Where space and freedom was excessive, it is now an asset, even envied.
Where survival to stay alive was once the goal, now economic survival
enables us to 'hold our own' as a serious world player.
Where once we were treated as 'the poor cousins',
now we are regarded as the 'land of opportunity and freedom'.
Lately though, things have changed.
On the international stage, we are being noticed.
This time however its not so much our
landscape and wildlife that's creating attention.
This time it is us.
The people.
For the last few decades,
we have significantly increased our profile as
world leaders in areas of technology, medicine, the arts and film, as well,
world champions in numerous sports, adventure and lifestyle pursuits.
Eventually, the question will be asked.
'' With only 20 million people, how do the Aussie's produce so many winners?''
Followed by,
'' What are they doing, that is so different down there?''
Do WE really know the answer?
We say it's our attitude, the under-dog approach,
but it goes further.
Our ancestry, as a nation, was built on
'making the best out of a bad situation',
'hang in there mate, she'll be right',
'helping out a mate in need',
'being fair dinkum' and
'giving people a fair-go'.
These are also the modern day qualities of a champion.
Positive thinking,
endurance and persistence to overcome all obstacles,
compassionate and supportive,
honest, truthful
and non-judgmental.
From our country's birth two centuries ago we grew,
we learned and we toiled.
World War 1, we aged and hit puberty,
formed government and decided our own path.
World War 2 arrived and we were prepared this time,
we finally earned the respect as a young adult would at 18.
We were now standing on our own two feet, truly independent.

As is custom in Australia,
we have a 21st party to celebrate the coming of age.
This is when we display our talents and
celebrate the occasion by inviting our friends to a party.
The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, was that party.
Australia's 21st.
So here we are 2008,
recognised as one of the world's best destinations,
but where to now?
What is our destiny as a young enthusiastic nation?
It is my belief that Australia
will eventually lead the way in conflict resolution.
We already, through example, show other multicultural nations
how to live in harmony and indeed prosper with inter-racial sharing.
We avoided the usual warfare of
'this is my land',
and the bloodshed that goes with it
and became visitors in our own home.
We honoured the Aboriginals as original guardians of the land
and reinstated many of the rights they requested.
We, as a country not only tolerate and accept these customs
but also respect and encourage different religions,
and diverse beliefs to express their uniqueness.

This kind of openness, is the freedom others seek.
This IS the kind of example we can be, to inspire the world.
This kind of attitude is Australia.
This is
'THE AGE OF AUSTRALIA.'
My current research has the particular aim of including your views,
in a summary with other citizens of Australia, on
"the meaning of life".
This study is designed to capture the uniqueness
of Australian attitudes and beliefs,
as well as identifying the infamous
"Aussie Spirit"
"The Aussie Battler"

The research will be divided into four (4) different categories,
which will enable us to pass on wisdom to each other in a
non-religious, non-political, unbiased manner of sharing.
___________________________
The four (4) studies include:
'THE AGE OF WISDOM'
'THE AGE OF REASON'
'THE AGE OF DISCOVERY'
'THE AGE OF INNOCENCE'
These studies will be compiled from the thoughts and beliefs
of a broad cross-section of typical Australians
in each of the respective age groups.
"The Age Of Wisdom" - comprising the over 45's logic and 'baby-boom' period
"The Age Of Reason" - being the over 30's - what is termed the 'X' Generation
"The Age Of Discovery" - wild and courageous actions of the 'teens and twenties'
"The Age Of Innocence" - offers the simplistic, innocent thoughts of the under 12's
What I am seeking is a paragraph,
phrase or a few words
which sum up your
EXPERIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE
All too often we neglect the elderly and their valuable advice.
We opt to discover our own answers and beliefs only to realise at a later date;
we could of saved ourselves a lot of time, energy and pain by listening to others.
As well, the reverse is true. A lot of older Australians have lost
their enthusiasm, that passion and spark that
children remind us to be.
OUR GOAL
Our goal with the coffee table book,
website and documentary is threefold:
1) To capture the uniqueness of Australian beliefs and attitudes.
2) To bridge the gap between parents, grandparents and children.
3) To raise awareness and much needed donations for teen suicide.
I believe we all have part of the answer
that would create harmony in society.
It may be a small step, but it is indeed a positive step
in understanding not only the differences we have,
but more importantly, the common truths that unite all ages.

Your response will be greatly appreciated, as will your
honesty, openness and wisdom;
in bringing my dream to reality,
and creating a reference for so many disillusioned people,
to assist them in finding their own secrets.

Note:-
Proceeds from all these publications and projects
will go towards further research in understanding
'teenage suicide in Australia'.
This is an area that needs urgent attention,
as living in one of the world's most beautiful locations
and having one of the world's worst teenage suicide rates
is almost incomprehensible.
Further Note :-
None of the information gathered will be misused or given to anyone
for anything other than what I have explained.
I thank you for your time.
On completion of my travels and research,
the best 100 responses in each of the four
(4) Categories will be published in a coffee-table book titled
"THE AGE OF AUSTRALIA"
The coffee-table book which will be a
220 page full-colour A4 hardcover pictorial of Australia,
would be accompanied with the 'best of quotes' collected.
The release date, November 2011 would make it an ideal Christmas present.
While touring Australia, we will also be interviewing unique Australians we meet.
Formatted on the same name and theme,
"The Age of Australia"
The video documentary will go far more in-depth to find out 'what makes them tick'.
By discovering their best moment in life and in contrast their most challenging moment,
we will be able to capture their joyful memories,
on colour film with a beautiful aspect in the background
and their painful re-creations of past failures on black and white film,
closely zoomed on their face.
This is simply an artistic way to illustrate the difference in their attitude.
This type of REALITY TV is not only heartfelt and inspiring
but also educational and entertaining.
This documentary has already received curiosity
from a Sydney production company.
The expected release date would be 2011 / 2012.
