Image Information: 1280 x 1024. This image represented an interesting challenge: trees in large numbers on a Terragen landscape. The landscape was grayscaled in Photoshop using
Stephen Donaldson's descriptions in The Illearth War as a guide, then eroded in World-Machine for realism. The Terragen render took 35 minutes. Next, the image was
brought into Photoshop for "forestation". This was done by using a tree-shaped Airbrush with Scattering, Size Jitter, Hue/Saturation Jitter and Opacity Jitter. The trees were
placed on separate layers (foreground trees, middle trees, background trees) to which the Drop Shadow Layer Style was applied. Total production time was about 5 hours.
Artistic Information: Melenkurion Skyweir was the location in The Illearth War where Covenant and Elena invoked the Power of Command and broke the Law of Death at the
story's climax. I chose this one as being an important location in the story as well as not involving a great deal of modelling work - instead relying on the brush scattering
effects to get the results.
