Image Information: 1280 x 960. This image is a composite of several images to create the final result. First, the distant mountains were
heightmapped and rendered in Terragen. Next, the lake and island part were also heightmapped and rendered in Terragen and the two images
composited in Photoshop. Then the island city and its satellite towns on the lakeshore were modelled in their respective positions
and rendered separately in Cinema4D. Their reflections were also created separately for later composition. Next, the two characters and the
hill they are standing on was modelled and rendered separately. Each Cinema4D image was also rendered as pure black and white outline to
obtain the stencil masks necessary for compositing in Photoshop. The various images were then composited in separate layers, using the stencil
masks to cut out the city buildings and blend them into the Terragen image. The forground characters and hill were then layered on top.
The total rendering and processing time was about 6 hours.
Artistic Information: This image is the 10th Anniversary remake of the first picture of Aiman I ever released on the Internet. The
original "Journey To Askhenderan" was hand-drawn using Brilliance software running on an Amiga 1200, in 1994 (
Click here to view the original Amiga picture). When I drew that image back then,
the technology I used to create this one was the stuff of science fiction!
Picture Story: Many visitors to Aiman, as well as the Aimanhyarin themselves, visit the famous Vaerantian trading city of Askhenderan,
located on the ancient Verran-Dhomalis trade route, Aiman's equivalent of Earth's own Silk Road. Askhenderan is to the Verran-Dhomalis route
what the Earthly city of Samarkand is to the Silk Road.
