Gravestones

Gravestones or headstones can be source of useful family history often they can tell their own sad stories. 

Take the gravestone of William Bourne Elphinstone Stewart, in the Whitingham Cemetary of New South Wales.  When William died his wife erected a double heart gravestone with William's details on the left and right left clear for herself.  She however moved to Sydney to live with her children, where she eventually died and was buried in that town.  So the double heart gravestone in Whitingham remains blank on one side.  One can only speculate the reasons why his wife was not interred with her husband.
