PRODUCT INFORMATION

VZ Adventra, Crewman Cross 6, Crewman Cross 8 and One Tonner Cross 6

Alloytec V6 Powertrain
Alloytec is a 3.6 litre, 60-degree V6 offered in two variants:

Alloytec – (Crewman Cross 6 & One Tonner Cross 6) produces 175kW of power @ 6000 rpm and 320Nm of torque @ 3600 rpm in the ECE measuring standard.

These models are equipped with upgraded 4L60 four-speed automatic transmission, calibrated for AWD. A new torque converter, more advanced controlling module and software and new calibrations provide better shift stabilisation and consistency.

Alloytec 190 – (Adventra V6 variants) produces 190kW of power @ 6500rpm and 340Nm of torque @ 3200rpm.

Specified in Adventra SX6, CX6 and LX6.

These models are equipped with new 5L40 five-speed automatic transmission, calibrated for AWD. (Adventra CX6 and LX6 have Active Select paddle shift). It utilises new generation hardware strategy with a new transmission controller, EC Cubing and Shift Stabilisation. The transmission controller accurately determines current vehicle operating conditions to create a strategy for optimum shift performance.

Gen III V8 Powertrain
The 5.7 litre Gen III V8 now features electronic throttle control and an upgraded engine management system. It is specified in Adventra LX8 ( 250kW @ 5600 rpm, 470Nm @ 4800rpm) and Crewman Cross 8 (235kW @ 5600rpm and 460Nm @ 4000rpm).

Adventra LX8 is specified with 4L60 four-speed automatic transmission.

Crewman Cross 8 is specified with heavy duty 4L65 automatic transmission.

Hydraulics and controller upgrades to these transmissions improve shift-to-shift variation.

Adventra is calibrated for 95 RON fuel.

Exhaust and Induction Systems
V6 models have a new, higher-packaged exhaust system with single pipe routing.

V8 engines use the 95mm air intake system and mass air flow sensor first developed for Pontiac GTO.

Cooling

Gen III V8 cooling system is upgraded with a new crossflow radiator.

Alloytec V6 and Gen III V8 have a ‘get home’ mode in the event of sudden coolant loss.

 

Chassis Dynamics

Suspension
Front suspension set-up is common to all VZ AWD vehicles. Refinements to the front stabiliser bar connecting link system sharpen steering response and increase the range of mild understeer at low to mid lateral ‘g’ forces.

Steering
A new lightweight aluminium power steering pump with new hoses lowers fluid temperatures, resulting in reduced noise, improved durability.

Recalibration of the power steering gear control valve has reduced low-speed steering effort.

Brakes
All AWD models benefit from VZ brake system upgrades. A new booster and master cylinder combination delivers a faster brake pressure response, achieving ABS-invoking pressure in almost half the time it took the previous system.

The Bosch 5.3 chassis control system is specified on Adventra LX8 and Crewman Cross 8.

The Bosch 8.0 chassis control system is specified on all Alloytec V6-powered models.

Wheels and Tyres
VZ AWD models with the exception of the One Tonner Cross 6 are equipped with 17x7.5-inch alloy wheels and 225/55 R17 97H tyres.

One Tonner Cross 6 has new 16x7-inch steel wheels and light commercial all-terrain-type 215/65 R16C tyres, (optional on Adventra models).

Cross Trac AWD System
Cross Trac is a permanent, traction control-based AWD system which utilises Automatic Brake Differential (ABD) software and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD). It has a rear wheel drive-biased torque split (38 per cent front, 62 per cent rear) for maximum flexibility and stability.

At least 1800 calibration variables determine the wheel control strategies for all common driving scenarios. There are hundreds of thousands of possibilities where Cross Trac will determine the optimum amount of torque split to provide maximum traction.

Strength and Durability
AWD chassis, underbody, key components and systems are engineered to cope with all-road applications. The significantly strengthened underbody includes front and rear ‘bash plate’ undertrays and a heavy duty engine cradle. Front strut bracing gives extra rigidity across the chassis. The modified transmission is mounted on a two-piece system that doubles as an extra body brace and acts to enhance safety performance in side impact crashes.

Safety

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Specified on Adventra V6 models and extensively recalibrated for AWD application. System features include: latest generation Bosch ESP8 ; Dual Texas Instruments ’Jupiter’ 18MHz ECUs with 512 kilobytes of memory each ; linear apply valves for smoother, more flexible control; and improved ABS and TCS calibrations, based on the extra sensor capability of the system.

Hill Descent Control (HDC)
Specified on Adventra V6 models, the steep gradient descent feature calculates ideal slip rates and has authority over all four wheels. It constantly modulates brake torque at each wheel to maximise braking effort, without driver input.

Electronic Brake Assist (EBA) and Brake Assist

Electronic Brake Assist is specified on Adventra V6 models.

Crewman Cross 6, Crewman Cross 8, Adventra LX8 and One Tonner Cross 6 models have a Brake Assist feature.

The systems sense how hard and fast a driver hits the brake pedal and determine whether more braking assistance is required. A dual reaction ratio in the booster assists the driver to reach ABS braking threshold more easily in emergency situations. In addition, EBA ensures maximum brake pressure is maintained even if pressure is inadvertently reduced by the driver. It disengages once pedal pressure is reduced below its threshold.

Traction Control
A new traction control system for all VZ AWD vehicles utilises electronic throttle control. Engine intervention is achieved via engine spark control and electronic throttle intervention.

On Alloytec models, a new slip control algorithm and linear apply valves offer smoother, more flexible brake pressure control.

Crash Testing
LCV – six full scale vehicle barrier tests: 1 x 48 km/h full frontal (ADR69); 2 X 50 km/h side impact (ADR 72)1 x 56 km/h frontal offset; 2 x 15 km/h full frontal.

Adventra V6 – four full scale vehicle barrier tests: 1 x 56 km/h frontal offset; 1 x 56 km/h frontal offset (ADR 73);1 X 50 km/h side impact (ADR 72);1 x 15 km/h full frontal.

Towing
Adventra V6 and V8 models – maximum towing 2100kg (braked - with accessory towing kit); LCV AWD V6 models - maximum towing 2100kg (braked - with accessory towing kit); Crewman Cross 8 – maximum towing 2500kg braked (with accessory towing kit)

Load Calculation and Safer Driving
Safe operation of Holden light commercial vehicles demands careful attention to two vital aspects of loading: balance and safe operating limits.

Recommended body lengths:
Excessive overhang can affect vehicle balance and road holding. When fitting a body or tray to a Cab Chassis model, the proposed rear tray fitment should be compliant with State vehicle and transport regulations. It is important that the vehicle is correctly specified for its intended application. Inappropriate modifications to the standard vehicle specification may affect vehicle performance and safety through overloading of the vehicle.

Front and rear axle loads:
The maximum allowable front axle and rear axle loads for Ute, One Tonner and Crewman are outlined in vehicle specifications. These ensure that the vehicle’s axles have sufficient strength to carry the total weight of body and mechanicals, plus cargo and passengers, and still retain a considerable capacity safety margin to cope with weight transfer as the vehicle brakes, accelerates, rolls in corners and goes over bumps.

Payload and Available Payload Mass:
‘Payload’ is the maximum capacity of the vehicle for the carriage of all non-standard items including cargo carrying devices (i.e. tray or body), the cargo itself, occupants, optional equipment and accessories.

Light commercial vehicles, depending on model and specification, all have different carrying capacities. Payload can be calculated by subtracting the figure for the vehicle’s Kerb Mass from the vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Mass.

‘Available Payload Mass’ is the mass of cargo that the finished vehicle is permitted to carry having regard to the aggregate mass of the vehicle’s kerb mass, optional equipment, accessories, cargo carrying device and occupants.

GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass):
GVM is the accepted safe, maximum all-up weight rating of a fully loaded vehicle and is based on design factors and strength of the frame, spring fitment, tyre rates and axle capacities.

Kerb Mass:
Kerb Mass is the mass of the vehicle in running order unoccupied and unladen, with all fluid reservoirs filled to their nominated capacity including fuel, and with air conditioning all standard equipment.

Calculating Available Payload Mass :
To calculate the maximum Available Payload Mass, subtract from the GVM the Kerb Mass, the weight of the occupants, plus the weight of any fitted options (tow bar and tongue, bull bar, etc.), and the weight of the fitted tray. It is important to note that the combined weight of all additional items needs to be added to the published Kerb Mass weight before being deducted from the vehicle’s GVM to arrive at the final maximum Available Payload Mass.
