Most people involved in modern film and video production would be well aware of motion control and the multitude of uses it can have. The trouble until now has been most rigs are either too large and complex to be easily transported and used on location or just too valuable to even risk it. We are now pleased to offer production companies the opportunity to make use of this valuable tool at virtually any location you choose and for a price that is sure to fit most budgets. |

At present, our rig in standard form
has three axis of movement; Dolly, Pan and Tilt. The
dolly runs on four lengths of standard Precision Dolly Track and is driven by a stepper
motor via a custom built rack and pinion system. The
pan and tilt system is basically a Worrell geared head driven with stepper motors. Lens control is achieved with small motors which
mount to standard 15mm matte box rails and have both 44 and 32 pitch gears.
The electronics and drivers are by Lynx Robotics in the US. Lynx have been in the motion control business for years and their systems are the industry standard. The software running the whole system is the immensely popular Millennium which is far less complex and therefore quicker and easier to use than other titles such as Kuper and is used widely throughout the film industry in the US. The software also generates data from each move which can be saved to a floppy disk. This information can then be used in post production to give digital components the exact same on screen movement as they would have, had they been somehow shot in the field. The whole system can fit into a standard 6 x 4 trailer and can be setup and ready to shoot in around an hour depending on the location. A recent shoot had the rig in the Flinders Ranges, the Murray River and several other locations for a complex multi-layered opening shot on a corporate video. The rig has also been used very successfully in the film industry in South Australia for several years now, at all sorts of locations and has been travelled all over the world on various film projects. The daily rate for equipment such as this is often what puts it out of the question for most productions however our rates are very competative to say the least. Feel free to e-mail me for more information about rate details. The freedom of camera movement in composite shots that motion control gives, makes it one of the most commonly used tools in modern film production. This freedom is now available to you.
