Behind The Mic

Max Radio is PBA-FM's 'specialist' program devoted to new and local music. Max is broadcast every Tuesday night in Adelaide, South Australia from 9pm til' Midnight and has been on the air under various names and guises since 1994. We've been known as "X-Radio", "X Dot Now" and for the last few years "Max".

Your hosts Steve & Scotty present a fresh breathe of air on Tuesday night radio with regular live bands, interviews, feature albums, music news, gossip, laughter and more.

We'd like to say we came up with the name "Max" after some lengthy process of brand development and focus sessions, but to be quite honest, we were stuffing around doing Richie Benaud impersonations one night - lightning struck and a new name was born!

Steve's been on the show from the start and Scott's not too far behind having taken a couple of years off in an attempt to master tantric yoga. There's also been James, Chuck and Paul the Sydney then USA corespondent.

We'd also like to thank the good folks at the Muses, Elizabeth City Centre, for lending us a Focus Album or two every week (like the one Scott's holding in the above picture)! Most gracious of them really!

Scott

During the mid 1850’s Scott had a curse put on him by a band of gypsies, so that each time he experiences true happiness he loses his soul and turns evil. Unfortunately they neglected to tell him that this would also happen if he is ever deprived of caffeine, is exposed to reality TV or hears Shannon Noll.

Throughout the working week he is disguised as a mild mannered primary school teacher, however Tuesday nights he unleashes the Rock God within (well, for 3 hours anyway). On weekends he’s a crime fighter and part time topless model.

He was bought up on the sound of searing guitars and thumping drums. His Dad was a drummer in a band, and so was his Mum! The Hoodoo Gurus and Cold Chisel are his messiahs, and there’s not too much about music old and new he doesn’t know. The only thing he isn’t really sure of is who he wants to mother his children. Katy Steele from ‘Little Birdy’ or Laken from ‘Angelik’.

Steve, also known as 'Brownie' did his time pressing the buttons (we think you get less for life) and hides behind the guest mic most weeks chewing on choc-coated coffee beans and sorting out the gig guide.

Steve must be a bit of a geek as he's the brains behind the Max and PBA-FM web sites and fights the constant battle against the mountain of spam our email address receives.

In his spare time Steve in on a quest to find the worlds most perfect espresso and to finally finish playing Halo (ask his friends, he's not much of a video gamer!). He loves coffee (no, instant doesn't count), cheese and white chocolate and you couldn't pay him enough money to eat a banana!

On the weeks he does get behind the desk, Steve likes to play russian roulette with some of the new music that magically arrives on the playback system. Most of the time this works, occassionally Scott has to beat him within and inch of his life!
