PBA-FM moves to new location - August 2007

After spending more than 25 years at our original location, PBA-FM moves to our new custom built studio complex in the heart of the city of Salisbury. We are now located at 19 Wiltshire St at the TWELVE25 Salisbury Youth Enterprise Centre.

PBA-FM looking to relocate - February 2005

The old campus grounds surrounding the studio complex are slowly but surely being gobbled up by new houses, the once bustling university campus is now beginning to resemble a nice and quiet suburban neighbourhood. The time has come to fulfill a long term goal of PBA-FM - we are looking to move !

De-foundation - August 2004 (new images added Feb 2005)

This one's for the trainspotters, long time station members and history buffs! As the campus redevelopment pushes on, the old Foundation Studio building, the Community Print Building and our storage sheds have been slowly been torn down.

Many years ago Foundation Studio was a bustling recording studio operated by PBA-FM that gave many local bands that all important demo recording and was also used by some better know artists. Foundation Studio closed its doors over 15 years ago and had been used on and off by training organisations for meeting rooms and workshops, I guess a well soundproofed building lends itself well to that purpose!

Community Print had moved off campus some years ago and their old building had been slowly falling apart after white ants had moved in! The storage sheds were a bit of a dumping ground for old equipment and were also used by a local theatre group to store their sets.

On the positive side, we managed to save some useful bits and pieces from our old storage shed before it was torn down including multicore cables, surplus old gear (the cases are useful!) and a 1/2 inch 4 track reel to reel recorder which has since cleaned up nicely and serves as a reminder of the 'good old days' before digital multi-track recording!

The sun sets on the former Foundation Studio building, half way through demolition.

Hard to imagine this was once a bustling recording studio!

The view out of our kitchen window - there used to be sheds, buildings and trees blocking this view.

Anyone for a souvenir?

The old 1/2 inch 4 track recorder we saved before the bulldozers moved in. Needs a bit of a clean and some TLC, but she'll scrub up just fine!

Business as Usual - July 2004

It's business as usual during the redevelopment of Salisbury Campus. Access to the station can still be gained through the main campus entrance off of Smith Road during business hours. After hours access can be gained from an new road off of London Drive, Salisbury East. Follow the Child care centre signs and you can't go wrong!

PBA-FM powers X-FM - January 2004

PBA-FM played a pivotal role supplying equipment and expertise for X-FM the official broadcaster for the 2004 Australian Scout Jamboree held in the Adelaide Hills during January 2004.

Steve Brown, Chairman of PBA-FM, led the team along with former board member, James Czornohalan. The team was made up of 14 people who produced a diversity of youth orientated programming from 7am through to 11pm. Programming ranged from a breakfast programme, magazine programme, daily count down and a live show held on the stage out the front of the station.

The studio was driven by two PC's and 'Simian' was used for all playback either in live assist or automated mode. As you can see from the photo below, the main studio was quite a funky place to be and a large window allowed the passing parade to see the announcers and guests in action.

The PBA-FM OB van was used as the production studio and was supervised by Radio Adelaide's Mark Gurd who was Production Manager.

A transportable building was used for admin, technical/tx and secondary production work. News was presented every hour and news gathering was done with mini disc portables courtesy of Radio Adelaide.

X-FM was a mammoth task requiring hundreds of hours of preparation, long days and little sleep during the broadcast but it was incredibly successful. 10,000 scouts and their leaders loved the broadcast and mobbed our team and promotions vehicle when venturing around the camp site.

You can find out more about X-FM at: www.xfm.jamboree.scouts.com.au

Inside the X-FM main studio. Local singer Tallie Brown is being interviewed by the team.

Guy Sebastian was one of the many VIP guests to the Jamboree that we had the pleasure of meeting. Steve (middle next to Guy) and some of the team had a chance to chat with the 'Fro', get some happy snaps and autographs.

Proving radio can be a very interactive experience, the crowd outside of the station enjoying the live evening show on our stage.

The team also got to meet Jo Ashton from Big Brother and she was a special guest one evening on X-FM. Steve even got to drive her around the site in his car!

Outside the main studio, Don Balaz and Mark Gurd from Radio Adelaide. Mark was the production manager and Don was visiting and getting some ideas for future OB's.
