Mitsubishi ASX Leaks
Thursday, 25 February 2010
Here’s some information off Minkara Carview about the ASX, Europe’s version of the Mitsubishi RVR or Outlander Sport [US market]

The car comes with a petrol and diesel engine. The oil-burner is a newly developed power unit developed jointly with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Motors Direct 1.8 ℓ Tech 4 DOHC 16V MIVEC Di-D turbo-diesel. This 1.8-litre variation of the newly developed common-rail diesel generates. 110 kW / 150 HP (= 4N13 or ?····). It has a fuel-saving idle-stop feature. The transmission is 6MT (basically CVT with 6 “manual” gears). Mitsubishi has adopted European emission standards and fuel efficiency combined with excellent environmental performance to meet the Euro5 emission targets.

According to the press release for Geneva. the ASX is not only the world’s first diesel passenger car with variable valve timing (MIVEC) but, in addition, offers other progressive technologies like variable turbocharger-turbine geometry and a ClearTec technology parcel for the reduction of CO2 emissions - among others, including start-stop system, diesel-particle filter, electric servo steering, regenerative brake system and fuel-efficient tyres.

Also for Europe is a petrol: 1.6 ℓ MIVEC gasoline engine (unknown model) with front-wheel drive option. The engine delivers 86 kW / 117 HP, likewise has variable MIVEC valve timing and is likewise equipped with CO2-reducing ClearTec technology. A second, 85 kW / 116 HP diesel variation will be offered at a later time. Both diesel versions are available alternatively with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

1. The Interior. I actually quite like it. Many are already heaping scorn on it.

2. The Exterior. Note the number plate!

Now here’s a shot from behind:

3. The Nose

I don’t like it, personally. Some will. In fact, some do. It’s Lancer’s nose, it’s an Audi nose that didn’t even work for Audi. There’ll be aftermarket add-ons to improve it, no doubt.

4. The Rear. Better. Possibly more macho than the RVR.

As I said before, apparently Europeans like more black bits on their cars, so they get them on the ASX: on the grille, around the lower light fitting, and under the doors. I remain convinced that overall the RVR is preferable.
