In South Australia there are a range of different educational options incorporating different communication methodologies. There are also both public school (DETE school) and private school options.

Children may be placed in there local neighbourhood school with additional support provided by specialist services. Alternatively children may attend Centres for the Hearing Impaired (CHI), where a specialist centre is co-located with a mainstream school and children attend the school with additional support provided by CHI staff.

Choosing the right educational placement for your child is often a difficult and confusing time. There are  many different options and configurations to consider. The best that any parent can do is to make what you feel is the best choice for your child at that time. Remember that no decisions are cast in concrete and you can reconsider your choices if you feel your child is not achieving in their current educational placement. PHISA urges all parents to ensure that they are making an informed choice.
 

To assist you to find the educational option that best suits your child, we have the contact information of a number of the different service providers here in South Australia. If you want to know a little more about their service before you contact them, some of them have brief summaries listed in the South Australia page of the Australian Deafness Directory. Alternatively you should be able to find them all listed in the Choices folder supplied by Australian Hearing.
