Using Google's Pedometer

A pedometer is a device that tallies how far you have walked doing your schedule walking activities.
A pedometer can be a reminder that every step counts on the path toward better health.
Walking paves the way to fitness. But are you covering enough distance? Use Google's pedometer to find out.

Enter the address shown and Google Pedometer will load.

Google Pedometer is a web site no large software to download.

When Google Maps first opens, it defaults to USA.

Type in your destination in the [Jump to] box. Example: Penrith Australia. Click [Go] or press [Enter].

You can enter any part of the world in the [Jump to] address box.

The entry takes you to Penrith in default map mode.

To move your map to a favourable position, Left Click and hold the button down and drag your map to the correct location.

  1. Use the slider to zoom in or out.

  2. Gives you a Satellite view (Google Earth).

  3. Hybrid (Satellite view) with street names.

The image above is in Hybrid mode.

This example demonstrates the walking path used by the Cardiac Support Group.

  1. Click the [Start recording] button.

1. Double click your start point.

2. Move to your next destination and double click.

3. Continue to the next destination, double click.

4. Continue using the method of double clicking at
the next point.

5. Records the total distance traveled and the last leg
traveled from previous point to last point.

The pedometer is designed as a fitness calculator with a novelty calorie counter for the amount of calories burnt while walking.

Make sure you have the Metric radio button on (black dot displayed).

  1. Click [on] the Calorie Counter.

  2. Enter your weight in Kg.

  3. Show the calories burnt.

1. Metric radio button selected.

2. Calorie Counter selected.

3. Click this option if you traveled in a straight line
and want to calculate the distance for a return trip.

4. Save route. This save option does not save to your
hard drive. It creates a link address on Google's
web site, and gives you an option to bookmark the
link. Clicking on the bookmark opens your saved
route. Must be on line to load Google Maps.

5. Clear all points on your last tagged route and
restart.

Google's Pedometer measures only in straight lines. If you travel a winding track then you must click on each turn. Same applies for measuring distance traveled by car or train.

It also appears to only calculate for flat terrain, so any hills climbed will not calculate for calories burnt.
