Match Summary

A good opening quarter saw North having plenty of forward opportunities. Wayne Carey led the team out in number 40 - marking Mazda's 40th anniversary. A 20 point lead was whittled away in the second quarter, with Geelong pulling to within 4 points holding North goalless for most of the quarter. Missing Hocking, Colbert, Pickering, Stoneham, Spinks, Barnes and Mansfield Geelong did well to hold a near full strength North Melbourne. But by the last 5 minutes of the quarter North took total control, and kicked away to a 27 point lead. This continued with a 10 goal to 3 second half. North gave a very polished performance, with encouraging signs from the smaller players. However not much can be read in to the game, as Geelong was grossly undermanned.
