Denis Pagan represented North Melbourne as a player in 120 games (plus 23 for South Melbourne), but his best efforts at the club were the five Under-19 Premierships that he coached. Unlucky to not be promoted to senior coach, he moved on to Essendon where he coached the Reserves to a Premiership immediately.
Pagan coached the team to the finals for a record 8 consecutive years (including the AFL record of 7 consecutive preliminary finals. The "Football Record" called Pagan "the man with the Finals Touch". Pagan coached a VFL/AFL side (U19/Reserves/Seniors) to the finals from 1983-2000.
