Yuranigh Yuranigh, a member of the Wiraduri tribe, guide to explorer and surveyor, Major Thomas Mitchell. Mitchell wrote about Yuranigh on his 4th and last trip: He has been my guide and companion counsellor and friend, on the most eventful occasions during this last journey of discovery. His intelligence and his judgement rendered him so necessary to me, that he was ever at my elbow, whether on foot or horseback. Confidence in him was never misplaced. He well knew the character of all the white men of the party. Nothing escaped his penetrating eye and quick ear. University of Melbourne Surveyor W. R. Davidson notified Mitchell in 1850 that Yuranigh was reported by his tribe to be dead. Surrounding his grave were four (Davidson's plans showed 5) marked trees at the grave site. The area surrounding the grave site is now a public reserve.

To celebrate the Year of the Outback a group of Surveyors traced the route taken by Thomas Mitchell and one of the places they visited in September 2002 was Yuranigh's grave site. As seen below.
