MY RESEARCH
Eight migrations over a 66 year period (1843-1909)
brought my ancestors to Australia, with arrivals in Adelaide and Melbourne.
Eventually all except one family (Phillips) arrived in Adelaide, South
Australia. Later, sometimes only in the next generation, some started moving
out again and now descendants of the following are scattered throughout
Australia, New Zealand, the USA, UK and South Africa.
The following table lists these migrations.

A maternal great grandmothers (mother's mother's mother) was my first Australian born ancestor,
being born at Myponga, South Australia in 1862 and my
maternal grandfather was the most recent ancestor born overseas.
My research outside of Australia extends to England,
Scotland, South Africa, United States of America, Canada and New Zealand.
FAMILY TREES
My genealogical database currently totals 19,392
persons. One family, SHEPHERD, accounts for about 4,700 persons. The database
includes my own family tree as well as those of numerous cousins. Listed below
and linked to this page are numerous small trees for individual families which
include over 1,000 persons. There is also a page with my direct
line back as far as I know.
The trees are cross linked where applicable, so some
people will appear on more than one page. I have not included persons known to
be still living in my internet trees, so the last generation shown will
generally be born around 1900-1910.
Where a time period is not stated in the following
tables I am researching it into the 1900's, which in most cases is well after
the time when an ancestor of that surname lived.
As well as the family trees I have written a number of
pages on the history of some of the families which may also be accessed through
the tables below.
I would be pleased to hear from anybody who finds a
connection to one of their families on these pages. Please send an email to rdblair.

DNA
I have had my
y-DNA tested as well as other BLAIRs who are on my family tree. This has helped confirm the tree with the
most recent common ancestor being well back before 1855.
It has also identified some people who belong to my BLAIR family tree but have
so far been unable to be added due to the lack of recording of baptisms and
marriages at various times in the 1700’s and early 1800’s.
The DNA results also include the haplogroup for my
deep ancestry (which is currently somewhere around 1000BC maybe earlier). The most recent (up to date) definition of my
haplogroup is R1b1a2a1a1b3c1b1 or R-Z35. This does
not take account of the Z384+ and Z276+ snp test
results.
Results of SNP tests are: L2+, Z276+, Z35+, Z34+, Z384+,
Z367+, P312+, M269+, P25+, L196-, Z275-, Z383-, L20-, L21-, L4-, U106-, M126-,
M153-, M222-.
This is at April
2012but changes in the classifications in prior years mean that some (including
mine) were known by a different code until then.
My
mitochondrial DNA, which is the female line all the way back through the
surnames Baird, Waugh, Best, Shepherd, Shepherd, Scoresby and Harland is J1b1a.
I have also
had relations tested to determine the Y-DNA for various other lines that I am
descended from.

I have also
tested a relationship on the family tree using the FTDNA Family Finder test
which assisted to identify who a great great
grandfather was.
