THE COACH
(David Noble)
"After the Norwood game we said we had to compete at every contest, had to compete as hard as possible. I know that is a fundamental of football but maybe sometimes you lose sight of that. They showed enormous character and want to get the ball."

COMMENTS
The Tigers secured its fourth win of the season with a committed four quarter performance against the previous league leader.  Glenelg broke a five year hoodoo with its first victory against the Eagles since 1999.

On a heavy Glenelg Oval (mainly in the centre square), the Seasiders suprised their more fancied opponent with a tough and direct style of play.  Aiden Parker and Paul Sherwood were solid in defence and Brett Backwell made a welcome return with a calming performance in the midfield.  Ball magnet Heath Culpitt was inspirational with 5 magnificent goals.

The Eagles were fortunate to be trailing by 1 point at quarter time by taking full advantage of their limited forays into attack.

The Tigers held sway for most of the day never allowing the Eagles to assert their authority for any great length of time.  When tested midway through the second quarter the home side rebounded like there was no tomorrow.

The third quarter was a battle of defences.  Glenelg failed to take advantage of their opportunities with a slight breeze and like so many times in 2004 a final quarter fade out was on the cards.  However, the young Tigers responded to coach Noble's 'lemon' time address and seized control of the game with a blitzkrieg of 3 goals in the opening 7 minutues of the final quarter.  Late into time-on Rookie Ruwoldt sealed the deal with a strong pack mark and goal.  It was immediately followed by Craig Statham running into the open goal.

After the final siren while 'Tigerland' blasted out over Glenelg Oval, the players grouped together and thanked the faithful supporters on the northern hill and in the members stand.

The embarrassing round 16 clash against the Redlegs has almost been erased from the short term memory bank but it will never be erased from the record books.  Many pundits and critics have argued that the Bays are no better than an amateur league team.  For some this has been based on one result.  The faithful supporter, yes the one that supports the team week in and week out, would know this to be not true.  Round 16 was a wake-up call and a sudden jolt to the system.  Thus far the players have responded superbly and a little bit of self belief was hovering over Brighton Road on Sunday evening.  That self belief and what was served up against the Eagles is required when the Tigers face the current league leader at Elizabeth Oval next Saturday.
