Overall ratio in this gear is about 16:1. Pre Series 3 does not have synchro on this gear. When taking off on level roads, this gear is optional if your load is light. It's not a good gear to be caught in if there is rougher stuff on the way. To "crash" to the the low ratio set using the Transfer Shift Lever takes lot's of skill when on the move. BEFORE this scenario gets out of hand, STOP and select, take off and continue in 3rd LO. Four wheel drive is automatically engaged in all low gears.

WARNING: Using this gear to obtain maximum pull may result in rear differential or halfshaft breakage if there is no tyre slippage. Eg pulling out tree stumps. Relieve some of the stress on the diff by engaging 4WD (pushing down the Yellow Lever)
