| The power train through the tranmission (from the input shaft at left) is coloured red. Overall ratio is about 40:1 meaning the vehicle can be "nursed" through extremely rough terrain rather than bashed "through". Pre Series 3 does not have synchro on this gear. Four wheel drive is automatically engaged in all low gears. There are two sliding components (shown in colour on the Overview) on the shaft between the front and rear output shafts. These parts lock the shafts together and engage the low ratio cog set.
WARNING: Using this gear to obtain maximum pull will result in rear differential or halfshaft breakage if there is no tyre slippage. Eg pulling out tree stumps.
