As with most gearboxes the drive in this gear is connected straight through meaning a ratio of 1:1. However, with the transfer case and differential, the overall ratio is about 5:1
This is the Land Rovers road gear, providing efficient cruising between 58kph and 90kph with the occasional push to 110kph. If cruising at 100 to 120kph for prolonged distances on sealed roads, a 15% to 25% increase in fuel economy can be obtained by fitting an overdrive unit and free-wheeling hubs.
