Having been with the original Gold Coast Giants from 1988-1990 I returned to the club after an absence of 1 season during which period Billy Johnstone took over (after retiring as a player) as the club's Strength and Conditioning Coach. 1991 was the club's worst season and the Head Coach that year was Bob McCarthy's Reserve Grade coach for the previous 3 seasons Malcolm Clift. At the end of this season I was approached by the club to return and assist Wally Lewis ex Queensland, Australia and Brisbane Broncos legend who took over as Head Coach from Clift. Wally coached the team until the end of the 1993 season. In Novemebr of 1993 John Harvey took over as Head Coach until the club finally withdrew from the national competition in Novemebr 1995 due, in part to the Super League War, and the increasing financial losses incurred by the Seagulls Leagues Club associated with owning the team.

This position involved the following:

Author of a comprehensive player training manual and diary.

Preparation, administration and evaluation of the yearly training programme for a total of 50 contracted players.

Practical presentation of all aspects of physical conditioning and skill sessions throughout the season e.g. speed and agility, and skills conditioning drills at all club training for squads ranging in size from 15 to 40 players.

Design and implementation of a yearly weight training programme to cater for the different needs of players based on mass, strength and/or power development.

Testing and evaluation of player fitness and suitability for play.

Group evaluation and report writing relating to results and yearly changes, etc.

In October 1998 I was invited by the then Head Coach of the Gold Coast Chargers (competing in the NRL competition) Phil Economidis to rejoin the club's coaching staff as the Head Skills and Conditioning Coach. Unfortunately the club was cut from the competition in December 1998 before this appointment could be taken up.
