20 Goals - 1899 to 2011

  • Hawthorn first scored 20 goals against Port Adelaide round 21, 2011 - 31.11-197 v 5.2-32.. 

  • Melbourne are yet to score 20 goals against  Port Adelaide. The nearest were -  18, round 13, 2006 and 18, round 4, 2004. 

  • Port Adelaide are yet to score 20 goals against Collingwood. The nearest was 17, round 16, 1997.

  • Richmond are yet to score 20 goals against Adelaide. The nearest was 19, round 22, 1995, 19, round 12, 1996 and 19, round 2, 1997. 

  • St Kilda are yet to score 20 goals against Fremantle. The nearest was 19, round 20, 2007. 

  • West Coast are yet to score 20 goals against Sydney. The nearest was 19, round 5, 1990.

  • WB/Footscray didn’t manage to score 20 goals against Collingwood until round 22, 2005. They defeated the Magpies, 21.15-141 to 14.16-100. 

  • Of the original 8 clubs, Geelong was the first to score 20 goals against Carlton, 22.12-144 v 10.12-72, round 5, 1925.
    St Kilda didn't manage 20 goals against Carlton until round 20, 1989. They lost 20.12-132 to 20.13-133. St Kilda's first win against Carlton scoring 20 goals was round 21, 1991 23.17-155 to 15.11-101.

  • The most 20 goal scores in 1 season is 66, in both 1982 and 1991.  In 2009 there were 22, 2010 there were 27, 2011 there were 40. (The most 20 behind scores was in 1982 - 46, there were 8 in 2009, 9 in 2010 and 15 in 2011).
  • The last season without any 20 goal scores was 1924. Since then the lowest number has been 1 in 1956.
  • Geelong holds the record for the greatest number of consecutive tallies of 20 goals or more - 6, Rounds 3 to 9, 1992 (they had a bye in round 5). The next best is Sydney/SM - 5, Rounds 11 to 15, 1934.

  • The most consecutive tallies of 20 goals conceded: 7 by Sydney/SM rounds 2 to 8, 1993. Next most: 6 by Richmond round 19 1986 to round 2 1987

  • On 11 occasions a team has kicked 20 goals in the second half of a match. The first occurred in 1919 - Sydney/SM 23.8-146 v St Kilda 0.4-4, the next 9 occurred from 1979 to 1993 with the last being in round 17, 2004 - Brisbane 21.4-130 v Adelaide 2.6-18. The most goals after half time is Hawthorn's 25.7-157 v Geelong 3.7-25, round 21 1986.
