Meziel, Malakite of Heaven

..............

Ages ago, for reasons not well remembered, Meziel started taking service with whatever Superior happened to have a need for a malakite with an urge to go places and blow them up, the better to broaden his understanding of the Symphony and the number of environments in which mayhem could ensue. He tended to enjoy serving Janus, as the Archangel of the Wind appreciated his penchant for a combination of travel, education, mayhem and recreational pyrotechnics; an attitude that could perhaps be traced back to a few adventures in China with a bunch of other Janus servitors around the time the Chinese invented fireworks. Needless to say, while he was capable of subtlety when the situation demanded it and tended to keep a moving low profile, he was the kind called in when being quiet was the least of your worries. In recent centuries he has been taking fewer assignments but more often showing up out of the blue to help lone angels in distress. A powerful celestial in his own right with various attunements and distinctions over the years, Meziel had the Forces and Superior contacts to perhaps even become a Superior but was uninterested in gaining a Word.

Meziel in the game:
If someone wanted to give Meziel a Word, 'Angel of Last-Second Rescues' might be it - he tends to step into view just before someone is about to meet a violent end and save their life, only to just as mysteriously step out of view afterwards. While he predominantly concerns himself with mortals (they're so fragile) he's also a candidate for Invocations which only just fail (or which succeed but the AA is busy - so they send Meziel instead) when death is on the line. He seems to be only just below a Superior in power, knowing all the common Songs and several uncommon ones. Relatively pacifistic - as Malakite go - if given the opportunity and time he prefers to judge Infernals on their merits (if any) rather than chopping first and asking questions later; for one of the Malakim, he seems to have quite a few Cherubic and Mercurial tendencies. However, he has a particular disgust concerning Shedim.
Resources and Songs:
Typically employing the vessels of a young man dressed in shirt, slacks, pale brown trench and sneakers, and a middling-sized hawk-falcon crossbreed, mottled grey-brown, Meziel owns at least two significant items of note. The first is the pale brown trench, a celestial artifact in which Meziel seems able to "store" various items without them leaving any bulges or being findable by others, and the second is akin to the common Fiery Sword, a silvery weapon with the ability to celestially attack a Shedim inside a host without harming that host. Meziel also seems to know a variant of Celestial Motion, with great range and capacity, which generates very little Disturbance.
Rites and Gifts:
Meziel doesn't teach any Rites, but a person who risks their own life to rescue a mortal from a violent end may receive a minor talisman, relic, reliquary or other suitable small gift a few days later, along with a brief thankyou. Such objects, if supernatural, always have the limitation "Usable only by Those on the Side of the Angels".
Note: Yes, Meziel is indeed something of a plot "McGuffin", there to keep things on track.
