I captured the event in a multiple exposure composite sequence, the photograph spans approximately 30 minutes of duration and shows the first glimpse of the partially eclipsed Moon as it rose above a layer of thin cloud on the horizon, and then moved northward as it gained altitude and moved out of the Earth's shadow.
The images were digitally stacked, and the darkness of the background sky was adjusted slightly to simulate the darkness of the sky at each given exposure, since given how quickly the light is changing during a sunset/moonrise event, it is very difficult to use just one background exposure to show the progression.
