Studio Flamenco Workshops

Each year Studio Flamenco endeavours to offer students holiday workshops as well as short courses with visiting flamenco artists from interstate or overseas.

In addition, teachers from Studio Flamenco are invited to give workshops around Australia. Recently Studio Flamenco held workshops with flamenco students in Lismore and Byron Bay, NSW.

Workshop with Soledad Barrio of 'Noche Flamenca' June 2009

Soledad Barrio was born in Madrid. She has appeared as soloist with Manuela Vargas, Blanca del Rey, Luisillo, El Guito, Manolete, Cristobal Reyes, and El Toleo, Ballet Español de Paco Romero, Festival Flamenco and many other companies. She has performed throughout Europe, Japan and North and South America with such artists as Alejandro Granados, Isabel Bayon, Jesus Torres, Miguel Perez, Belen Maya, Manolo Marin, Javier Baron, Merce Esmeralda, Rafael Campallo, Belen Maya, etc. She has won awards from over 12 different countries around the globe for her excellence in dance. She recently received a "Bessie" award for Outstanding Creative Achievement. She is a founding member of Noche Flamenca and is married to Artistic Director Martín Santangelo. They have two beautiful daughters, Gabriela and Stella.

Francesca Grima ‘La Chica’
Principal dancer with Sevilla-based company, ‘Puerto Flamenco’, ‘La Chica’ has performed at famous flamenco tablaos in Seville including La Arenal and appeared as a soloist in international productions at the 2006 Bienal de Flamenco in Seville. For the past 6 years Francesca has appeared as a soloist in “Etnikafe- Fusion de Flamenco y Jazz” and has performed at many festivals in Ireland, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg.
Andrej Vujicic
Originally from Belgrade, Andrej began his career as a flamenco percussionist in Sydney. Now based in Sevilla, Spain, he has collaborated with many famous flamenco artists, toured extensively in Asia, Australia and Europe with Puerto Flamenco, and performed in Spain’s major flamenco festivals including the Bienal de Flamenco, Sevilla and Festival de Jerez. He is also featured on the well-known ‘solo compás’ flamenco cd series.

Workshops with Rosalie Tomas June 2008

Born and bred in Adelaide, Rosalie has spent the last 5 years living in Madrid where she has dedicated her life to flamenco dance. Training daily under many of the world’s greatest flamenco dancers at the prestigious Amor de Dios academy, Rosalie has become a leading young Australian flamenco artist, demonstrated by her acceptance into highly competitive performing circles in Madrid. Rosalie performs regularly at El Juglar flamenco club, El Arte Club and Barco, and popular Madrid tablaos ‘Torres Bermejas’ and ‘Al Andalus’, as well as giving workshops in El Horno dance academy.Rosalie’s impressive technique and style is a true experience of the flamenco of today, which she conveys in her warm and enthusiastic teaching style. She is an inspiration to other Adelaidian flamenco dancers and students!

Workshop with Jessica Statham (Sydney/Madrid) Oct 2007

Jessica discovered flamenco and began her training at the age of 13 in her home town of Sydney . After 'graduating' from junior troupe 'Las Flamenquitas', Jessica spent many years performing in Sydney tablao 'La Campana'. In 2004, she moved to Madrid where she spent 3 years dedicating her life to intensive daily training under the world's greatest flamenco dancers at the Amor de Dios academy. Jessica has performed in Madrid 's popular 'El Juglar' tablao and currently performs in the Sydney company of Elena Varga, 'the 'Flamenco Crew'. She has gained a reputation in flamenco circles here and overseas for her impeccable rhythm and footwork. Her technique, individuality and passionate commitment to flamenco make her a leading artist among Australia 's new flamenco generation.

 

Workshops with Ana Romero, February 2006

Ana was born in Australia to Andalusian immigrants. She began studying flamenco at an early age, moving to Madrid where she has lived and worked for many years. There she trained intensively for many years in the famous academy 'Amor de Dios' with maestros including 'La China ', Paco Romero, 'Ciro', 'El Guito' and Manolete. She began her professional dance career in some of Spain 's most famous tablaos and soon after began dancing in some of Spain 's leading flamenco dance companies, including those of Manuela Vargas, Luisillo, Manolete, El Guito and Cristina Hoyos. Ana has continued to share her brilliant artistry and technique, running workshops throughout the world including Spain , Brazil , Canada , Australia and the US . She is also a founding partner of the highly respected 'Las Carboneras' tablao in Madrid.

Soloist (dancer) with the Paco Pena Flamenco Company

Ramón is one of Spain 's rising young flamenco stars. Originally from Málaga, he has worked and toured with Spain's most renowned companies, including in the Compañía Andaluza de Danza under the direction of Mario Maya and the companies of Javier Latorre, Manolo Marín, María Pagés, Eva la Yerbabuena, Javier Barón, the Ballet Cristina Hoyos and the Spanish Ballet of Murcia to name a few. He has performed in many of Spain 's most famous tablaos, including Los Gallos   in Sevilla and Casa Patas en Madrid . Recently he has worked with Alicia Márquez to produce 'Jóvenes flamencos' in 2003/04 in Seville . He has also recently presented the first production of his own company ' Raíces Flamencas' (Flamenco Roots) in Korea and Rome and performed as a soloist in the last Bienal de Flamenco in Seville in the 'Jóvenes Promesas.' Currently, he is touring Australia as a soloist with Paco Pena.
