The band runs a youth band for budding musicians (of any age) prior to the usual Tuesday evening, commencing at 7:00pm. This rehearses during school terms.
We welcome new members of any age and experience however if you play a lower brass instrument - we would especially love to hear from you.
Band membership is $50 per year adult, $25 concession or $15 for students, non-playing members and children.
The Musical Director
The band excels under the accomplished baton of Shane Walterfang. Shane is a committed music educator who aims to provide a range of engaging and stimulating musical experiences to encourage people to pursue music making as a lifelong activity.
As a professional trumpet player, Shane enjoyed a diverse free-lance career performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, State Orchestra of Victoria, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Pops Orchestra. During this time he was also involved in recording television jingles and movie soundtracks as well as working with the Anne and John Hawker Big Band.

He has also organised and lead music tours within Australia, to New Zealand and China. Shane is currently VCE Co-ordinator and Head of Music at Balcombe Grammar School.
Shane actively supports teaching as a profession and is the immediate past Chair of the Australian Society for Music Education (ASME) - Victorian Chapter. In particular, he is active in providing support for graduate music teachers as they embark on their first teaching appointments.
