Jane Burbridge

Ceramics.

I started producing ceramics in 1997 when I attended TAFE and gained Certificate I & II in Art Practice, followed by a Bachelor of Applied Arts- Ceramics & Glass at Uni SA, and then a two year associateship with JamFactory Ceramic Department.

I now work from a home based studio in Echunga, as well as committing several days per week to production throwing for a private pottery in Belair, JamFactory Ceramic department and other private potters. I am also involved with presenting ceramic workshops and specialist art teaching.

Childhood family holidays in remote areas of Mid Northern Australia initiated my love of the colours and textures of our countries arid interior, and, coupled with my interests in archaeology and palaeontology, have provided the inspiration for both my production and exhibition work.

Being a versatile ceramist I utilize a number of production and firing methods and various clay bodies to produce a wide range of work, from delicate porcelain forms to large scale garden sculptures. Through exhibition work I tend to be a story teller and encrypt many layers of subtle information into the form with the use of imagery and textures.

I am a member of Craft South and The Clay Collective and am involved in local and interstate solo and group exhibitions and competitions. I also supply functional domestic ware to several local and interstate galleries. I am happy to discuss commissions and have works in private collections in Austria, England, America and Australia.
