Terry Menzies (
Pipe Major)

I began my piping career in Sydney with the Grade 4 Epping and District Pipe Band being trained by Mr Robert (Bob) McLellan.

After some 4 years I left Australia for New Zealand and for a time I played with the Grade 2 City of Auckland Pipe Band who have since gained Grade 1.

For a short time before returning to Australia, I played with the Grade 2 band "Ricketton Highland" in Christchurch.

After my return to Australia and a few months away from piping, I joined the Maryborough Caledonian Society Band where I am a member to this day.

I joined the newly formed Hervey Bay RSL Pipe Band as Pipe Major for a few years, retaining my Maryborough membership during this time.

I currently play for The Queensland Irish No1 Pipe Band as a guest piper.

My pipes are Hardies outfitted with a Ross Canister bag, plastic Warmac Chanter and Shepherd SM90 reeds.

I love the Shepherd SM90 plastic drone reeds and recommend them to pipers new and old.

Keir Welch (Piper)

Keir began learning the side drum in the Rathkeale College Pipe Band in Masterton New Zealand in 1969 where he became Drum Major in his last year.

Upon leaving school he joined the Wellington Scottish Pipes and Drums (known then as The Pipes and Drums of Wellington City) as a side drummer in 1973, and continued 'seriously' learning the pipes as well, under the guidence of Pipe Major Kevin Nelson.

Since moving to Australia in 1982 he has enjoyed brief memberships of the Rockhampton
Pipe Band and the Ballina Pipe Band, in between work commitments.

He is now enjoying his return to piping with the Maryborough Caledonian Pipe Band.
