Legal Modelling Frequencies in Australia

Radio Controlled Model Aircraft can only operate legally in Australia on frequencies approved by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). It should be noted that the use of 35 MHz and 72 MHz for aeromodelling in Australia is illegal.

The frequency bands approved by the M.A.A.A. are 29.720 - 30.000 MHz, 36.000 - 36.600 MHz, 40.660 - 40.700 MHz and 2.4 GHz. The assigned centre frequencies for operation are 5kHz removed from the band edges. Frequencies other than those identified above are not recommended to be used at any field operated by the M.A.A.A., any State Association, Club, or any M.A.A.A. affiliated member.

Information Specific to our Flying Field

We must comply with MAAA Policy on all aeromodelling issues, and also with all government regulations.

The 36 Mhz and 2.4 GHz bands are the only ones permitted for use at our flying site. Only 20 Khz (50mm) keys are permitted to be used at our field, the use of 10 Khz (25mm) keys is prohibited.

Equipment using the 29 MHz or 40 MHz frequency bands are not permitted at our field because we share our facility with a model car/buggy club who also use the same frequency bands and also because of our proximity to nearby suburbia. 40 Mhz and 2.4 GHz frequencies are available to any member of the public for any low powered electronic device.
