The Flinders Ranges National Park can be found 300 kilometres north of Adelaide and near Port Augusta.
It is an easy destination on a journey between Adelaide and Alice Springs or Perth.

The National park is part of the mountain range which runs parallel to the South Australian coastline from the Fleurieu Peninsula, which is south of Adelaide to the arid regions of the mid-north.
The Ranges are a popular holiday spot and offer some spectacular mountain views, gorges & chasms and bush-walking.
At the centre of the park is the Wilpena Chalet which offers accommodation and facilities. The towns in the region make a good base for touring. Some of these are Wilmington, Blinman, Peterborough, Port Augusta and Port Pirie.
To the north of the ranges is an arid region with stark rocky outcrops similar to that seen in Central Australia.
Going south, waterfalls and lush forests are to be found.
East and west of the park huge salt lakes will be found. Nearly always dry, the hard salt crust has and is used for world speed record attempts. After rain they become a nesting ground for migratory water birds.
