If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were." "Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye." "Love builds bridges where there are none." "Where there is love there is life." "Treasure the love you receive above all. It will survive long after your good health has vanished." "Love means never having to say you're sorry." We've got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can't just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it's going to get on by itself. You've got to keep watering it. You've got to really look after it and nurture it." (John Lennon) When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace" (Jimi Hendrix) OTHER IDEAS The REAL story behind St Valentines Day Is the fairy tale the truth? Can there really be happily ever after? The traditions and rituals of marriage across the centuries and the cultures Compare song lyrics - why is love an eternal theme? Compare Romeo & Juliet to West Side Story to Ganglands Spelling A lot of poor spellers and readers get their creativity blocked because the ideas are trapped inside them and can't come out on paper. So I always think we should give people more oral work (not just more work on spelling) to release both their thinking and their imagination. For example:- 1. Telling a story or a joke in a round circle every day. 2. Taping stories 3. Creating videos, 4. Interviewing people around the school or community 5. Learning how to master the kid version of Dragon Naturally Speaking. 6. Presenting information to a class or a group in the community. Part of this has come from my work in the writing field where it is important for creativity to be practised in ways other than just paper. And part came from my experiences as a ski instructor in Austria where I didn't have enough of the language to speak - and to think - with fluency. I woke up one morning knowing that I had been dreaming like this: The snow is good. The weather is good. The skiing is good. Not good. Research also shows that people with a LD who learn to touch type have much less difficulty with spelling (and not just because of spell check.) Something to do with it being easier to push a button than form the curve of a letter like 'a' and also the spelling goes into muscle memory. This one is great for younger/less able spellers and readers particularly the interactive activities. http://www.ash.udel.edu/ash/challenge/challengeframe.html Kid's mysteries http://kids.mysterynet.com/ Wayne April 2005 |
