A Discovery Tour of ITALY

A WebQuest for Year 6/7 Students at NAPS

BUON GIORNO!

INTRODUCTION:

You have been chosen to design a travel brochure on Italy by some large store “purchasing” agents based in Adelaide. As well as  the travel brochure you needs to include items for an exclusive "Italian Only" section in a large shop. They need the items for the “Teen”,  "Young Adult" market.

Your Goal is to learn about Italy through this assignment, and share your brochure with other travel agents.
Also have a selection of information, descriptions, lists, models, photos, drawings etc. of products other people will buy.
Your Role
as an agent is to inform any potential clients of what they will experience when they visit Italy and what they can expect to buy for their stores and perhaps even the approximate prices to pay.

THE TASKS:

1. A Brochure

Your brochure will include:
~ some history of  the city you choose,
~ physical landmarks,
~ special attractions,
~ famous people who lived there
~ any other interesting information

THE PROCESS:

First you will be assigned a group of travel agents to work with. Within your group, you will decide on a minimum of 3 major cities to report on. Gather all the information you can on those cities according to the headings listed in the "The Task" and decide how you will include this information in your brochure.

Your Brochure should accurately depict historical and modern Italy.
For each city, your research should include historical events that took place in the city, physical characteristics (lakes, mountains, etc.), any famous landmarks (The Vatican in Rome), famous people, culture, food, fashion, exclusive items for your store and anything else you find interesting and important about the cities you selected.
Further examples of what you could research are:
* Choose a museum and include pictures and description of the art work.
* Describe the restaurants and their menus.
* Describe ten historical buildings - how they look, their history and significance.
* Describe the possible weather during your stay.
* Find out what movies, songs and radio programs are popular. Include this information.
* Display a daily newspaper. Comment on the top stories that occurred during your stay.

You may do research on Milan, Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, Sicily, San Marino, Genoa, Bologna or any other big city in Italy.
Headings to be written in Italian.
Translate the names of each city.

Your group may choose to prepare your brochure either typed on the computer, or handwritten and coloured.
Your group will be presenting your finished brochure to the rest of the class. This will allow you to learn about the cities you did not research or learn some information you may not have found in your research.

2. A "Show Bag" - The range of exclusive Italian only products/ services your clients can purchase to be sold in their store.

Provide examples of “Italian only” goods or services you wish to stock/show in your store.
Example - fashion buyer – relevant information about designers and the newest fashions.
  ~ plans and coloured-in drawings
~ evening wear, casual, bathers -  what?
~ Label each item and provide information about the label
  ~ photos
~ costs to buy and to sell these items in your store
