Australian Software Teaches Children
Three Core Microsoft Office Programs

... developed in collaboration with early childhood specialists, and endorsed by Microsoft is a versatile suite of learning programs that enables elementary teachers to incorporate open-ended technology productivity tools across the curriculum.

Designed to enable the power of Microsoft Office in the elementary classroom, Max’s Sandbox offers an age-appropriate interface for the popular software programs... Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Complete with a variety of helpful templates, drawing tools, and hundreds of colourful graphics, sound animations and movies this program provides an early introduction to using Microsoft Office - one that students can use to acquire reading, writing and math skills creatively now, and for years to come.

Suitable For Special Needs...

The program [suitable for special needs, gifted and general learning programs] teaches children word processing, spreadsheets and professional presentation skills that they will use throughout their school years and in their future careers.

Max's Sandbox is software that is not only designed for early years students but is based on a constructivist approach to learning.

Most of all students love using it.

It provides a great opportunity for teachers, as the software is able to enhance student learning in literacy and numeracy without the technology getting in the way. Max's Sandbox is intuitive and easy to use for three years old and up.

Benefits For Teachers Using Max's Sandbox In The Classroom

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is a serious tool used in business.

However... many of the features available are unnecessary and difficult for small children to use as well as for older children with special needs.

It's also a hard ask to expect teachers to understand the full complexities of the suite and then to incorporate it into their classroom.  For example, with Microsoft Office, a child could inadvertently insert a page break or any one of hundreds of operations the child never intended.

You, as a teacher, have to fix it, which would demand an advanced knowledge of the system as well as involving you in the very time-consuming activity of going around correcting the results of slipped fingers.

Max's Sandbox is the ideal tool for teachers to use in the classroom because while it is easy and fun for children to use and master it also limits the options available to them.

Menus have been removed, allowing pre-readers easy access to functionality provided in the standard product.  Most functions and options are no more than one click, so it becomes unnecessary to navigate menus.

Most importantly, it takes about 10 minutes to learn to operate this system and about two hours to master it, which means teachers can learn easily the full capacity of Max's Sandbox before they introduce it to their students.

Max’s Sandbox allows teachers to direct children's attention to the curriculum being taught rather than the technology being used.  If a child gets into difficulty while using Max's Sandbox the teacher can, with confidence, resolve the problem and guide the child back to their assignment.

As the child's skill develops and the need for more complex use of Microsoft Office grows, it will then be
a lot easier for the child to switch to standard MS Office operations.
