PPC Bidding:  Pay Per Click Search Engines are powerful tools which can be used to kick-start your online enterprise.  Here are two non-conventional ways to use PPC's for research when you have your own product.

Use Google AdWords and MYPS to determine the most profitable price point for your product.

Use PPC's to test, improve and then validate campaign conversion rates BEFORE you release your product.  This data is then used to leverage Joint Venture deals with other marketers.

The way this works is that you use the PPC's to test your offer on the web, and then use these results to demonstrate to potential JV partners the $value of joint venturing with you on the promotion of your product.

This is what you do.  Construct a mathematical model by pushing 100 clicks through your campaign.  Massage your offer, copy and campaign until you get a better than a 1% click-through to conversion ratio (meaning more than 1 person in 100 buys what you're offering).

Take your campaign conversion results to your potential JV partners and cut a deal.  Obviously the better your PPC results, the better the deal is that you can cut with your potential joint venture partners.

Of course there are other factors which come into play here like your online reputation, the quality of the work itself, and the way you've approached these JV partners in the first place.

Step One: Go to the Overture Tool Suite and enter the keywords you "think" people might be using to search for what it is you're selling. You'll find a lot of terms and search numbers.

However... search numbers without a count of the competing web pages is meaningless data for identifying niche markets.

Another free tool you can use here in this initial research stage is Keyword Inventor.

Step Two: Your first, cursory Overture search will begin to identify the niche key terms that you'll want to use in your power search (step three).

Overture data is mathematically "skewed", because every time some marketer uses the tool to research keywords Overture adds that 'search' to the count number.  This is not "natural" search (people going to search engines and keying in a keyword search phrase).  Overture is only used as a 'starting' point.

Step Three: Research "profitable" keywords with these power tools.  Find the key terms that people are actually using to find your product on the Internet.  Use... Wordtracker and/ or SBI Manager and/ or AdWord Analyzer (Note: Adword Analyzer pulls from Overture, but it is useful tool to identify the number of Adword's/ Overture campaigns being run).

What we're looking for here is the mathematic relationship between keyword SUPPLY & DEMAND, a clutch of niche terms.

We now run our test campaign on OTHER PPC systems.

The reason?  Overture is expensive for start-up campaigns.

Step Four: Go to Google AdWords and/ or Keywordgold and run your JV test there.  The reason to use Keywordgold is because it's much cheaper, and you'll get to run your JV test through multiple Pay Per Click Search Engines at the same time.
