Redgate - Riverstone (built c1894) by Joseph Henry Cragg
Redgate - Riverstone
Redgate in
Riverstone, NSW
was the Cragg family cottage that stood on 19 acres of land purchased
in Oct 1890 by Joseph Henry Cragg. Over time he bought up the land around this
inital holding, making his last purchase in 1909. In total the property
came to well over 40 acres by the time it was sold in 1924 following the
passing away of Joseph Henry. It is believed he moved here from
Tumbledown Barn
which was situated quite close to the woolwash.

"On Wednesday afternoon, while Mrs. J. Towers, accompanied by Miss Bryan and an infant
were driving in a sulky from Jordan [Mills] to riverstone, they met with an accident on Eastern
Creek Bridge. It appears that the pony's foot struck a large nail which was protruding up through
the floor, which brought it to grief. The occupants were thrown heavily from the vehicle....The
occupants of the vehicle were conveyed into Mr. Stokes' cottage, and appeared to be very much shaken.
They were afterwards driven to Redgate and attended to."
